Looking into rebarreling my howa 1500 (30/06) with OMR. Been intrigued looking at velocities/ performance of the 270 offerings on unknowns website. In particular the 165 and 150 grain ABLR’s. Curious if anyone has first hand experience with these? Looking for velocity info from 22” barrel. I assume the advertised velocities on unknowns website are from a 26” like their other cartridges state. Not a reloader at the moment so looking at these as well as the federal term. Ascents.

Atleast until i buy a tikka in 223 and shoot tmks…..

Thanks!!

Yep I have a 270 win in a fast twist 1-8 MacGowen precision 26” barrel , 2900 fps for a 170 gr EOL Hunter

I built a 270 1-8 with a 20" McGowen barrel this year. Have not loaded the accubonds yet, but am getting 2890 fps with a 155 LRX.

30 fps +\- per inch of barrel a good estimate you think for velocity reduction? Leaning towards a 22” barrel at the moment

Posted my fps question before reading yours. Thanks for the info. Run any heavy factory loads for reference? Not a reloader currently

The heaviest factory loads I have shot were the 145 ELDx Hornady and 140 TMKs from Sig. The ELDx averaged about 2940 and the Sig ammo 2900. Both were faster than what I expected with the 20" barrel.

Wow no kidding. Thanks for the info! 270 it is.

Disclaimer: I have first hand experience with the 150 gr ABLR.

We have taken several elk and one oryx using them. No complaints on performance.

Muzzle velocity of 2785 fps at 5420' elev and at 36 deg F, velocity at 400 yds is 2142 fps (calculated, not measured).

Longest shot distance on a cow elk was 504 yds. All others have been 300-400.

I had a 21” 1-8 .270win barrel on a Kimber Montana. I got 2790 with the 165 ABLR on a brand new barrel. Probably would have been 2850 after it got some rounds through it. A buddy has it now and I’m trying to convince him to let me play with it again.
I also had a 1-8 Brux barrel at 25” and got 3050 with the 165 ABLR. Man did that thing put down deer quick.
