.270 Round Combo?

What are your favorite rounds to shoot for a .270? I’m from the east so I typically shoot the hornady 130 grain, but looking to head west and was curious on good all around cartridge for elk...etc. Thanks!

I used Remington Core-Lokt for years in different calibers and had good luck with 130gr Core-Lokts in my newer .270... until the last year or so when I've bought newer boxes and had bad accuracy, deformed tips, and a BUNCH of misfires (bad primers). So far I've had much better luck with Federal Premium, but am definitely trying a few others, too.

Unsure of the twist rate of your rifle, but pick a grain bullet that will stabilize if shooting any distance. That said, for Elk I would suggest the heaviest grain bullet that will stabilize and group well in a bullet that will stay together like a partition.

For elk 150 Nosler partion or 130 Federal trophy bonded tip. Killed elk with both. By the way the 130 Rem Cor Lokt is my favorite for deer but I wouldn't use them on elk.

for years I shot 150 nosler partition for elk with great results. When I started hand loading I switched to 140 gr accubonds and have killed elk with them and they also work really well.

I have killed a couple elk with the 130 grain Hornady GMX. Neither of them went very far after the shot, either.

I also like the 140 gr Accubond. The Federal Premium ammo loaded with that bullet shoots really great out of my 270. The 145 gr eldx has also shot really well and performed well on deer, but haven't shot an elk with it.

I am an old Jack Conner guy. Shoot nothing but 130 grain out of my .270. The last several years using either Nosler Accubond or Ballistic Tips, depending on what I was hunting. With the same old Winchester 270 I have taken elk, bear, muleys, whitetail, antelope, and wolf. All the rifle that I need. My son used his .270 to take a big 6 point bull last fall. The Accubonds did a great job on it.

140g Accubond is a good all around bullet. I used a 140g Swift A Frame on my Yukon moose and it crushed him. 1/4ing towards me the point of the shoulder shot found the bullet just in front of the opposite ham.

I've been loading 140tsx originals over 52.4 grains of h4350 for the last 10 years. It's not the heaviest or the lightest so middle of the road should just about cover the bases I figured.

i've had good luck with 130grain bullets at the range but most folks tell me that my 270 wouldn't be enough for mountain elk. interested to hear others experience hunting elk with 270

Just cause folks forget, doesn’t mean the round isn’t a damn good one. Stout 130 grain bullets from a .270 will kill elk deader than a door nail.
