Only thing to add to the mix is nosler started making a 150gr AB this year (guessing it was paired with the introduction of the 277 fury and 27 nosler). That would be like making a great thing (140 gr AB) even better.

I plan to run the new 150 Accubonds this year. They shot sub.5 moa in my tikka so I thought I would give them a whirl. The last half decade I’ve used the 150gr partition for take multiple truckloads of elk, deer, antelope, moose and Mtn goat.

I am taking 85 TSX for elk this year, normally 129 LRX, but shoulder surgery mandates 85 gr. 3750 fps

Another+ 1 for Barnes 130 gr TTSX

My 1980s Model 70 270 loves the Barnes Vortx factory load. Consistently 1 MOA or less. Corelokt is consistently 2-3+ MOA, for comparison. I haven't used the Barnes for elk yet, but it does a number on AZ mule deer and south Texas whitetail.

My grandson has killed 3 Arizona elk with corelok 130 grain bullets. Ranges from about 150-280 yards. All were 1 shot kills. Porper bullet placement is very important with the lighter weight bullets.

I don’t think shot placement is less important with larger rounds, but I do believe people think that.

I really like the 140 gr accubond out of my 270 WSM. Last elk I killed with it was close to 509 yds. Hit point of right shoulder and blew through breaking offside leg. Went less than 30 yds before falling over. My all time favorite rifle and bullet combo.

I've used 150gr Nosler Partitions in my .270 for years, on both deer and elk. Works great never an issue. The bigger the bullet the better for Elk, and with a .270 I wouldn't recommend stretching the distance too much on elk.

Are they the AB long range? What powder and load? I’ve been trying those in my tikka using H4350 and can’t seem to find a good formula.

The 2 best powders so far for the 150 grain AB Long Range have been Reloader 22 and IMR 4831. I am still working on the most accurate medium to long range loads for 270.

Just purchased two boxes of HSM low-recoil 130 Sierra for my 13 year old. Does anyone know how effective these would be on elk under 200 yards? We mostly hunt timber anyhow, but wanted to know if 200 yards was effective on a bull elk. Thanks

Aman, I've killed a couple dozen elk with a 270, most one shot kills. Mostly 130 or 150 partitions but also 140 Accubond and my new favorite, the 130 HDY Superformance GMX. I can't load ammo any faster and only barely more accurate. You're getting great advice here...

On, and over half have been well over 300 yds. Anyone that says a 270 won't kill elk does not know what he is talking about.

Beck, I am taking about the regular 150gr accubond the introduced this year, not the ABLR. I did try the ablr but the best I could ever get them shot shoot were about 1-1.25moa. 4 different powders yielded the same results. Not bad, but not great.

What are your favorite rounds to shoot for a .270? I’m from the east so I typically shoot the hornady 130 grain, but looking to head west and was curious on good all around cartridge for elk...etc. Thanks!

I have recently been using the Federal Premium trophy copper 130 grain. So far so good it’s been shooting great.

when i had a 270, my bullet of choice was a 130gr partition. i never killed an elk with it, but watched several die shot with it. i used it for deer and bear. second choice would be whatever mono bullets shot the best. i have been shooting ttsx out of my 7mag the past few years and like them.... still have a soft spot for partitions though, in any rifle they shoot well out of.... my favorite bullet for any big game
