25prc speeds

I didn't, it was 50fps slower than rl26 in my short barrel 6prc, so figured it'd not be worth it. N565 did get me to 3160 at psi, but accuracy was at similar speeds at H1000. I run everything suppresed so try to run cleaner powders in the overbore magnums. I have a 22in 300nmi as well, using N565 in that, 2970 w/ 215hyb, that thing has some PUSH with the can.
I bet N560 would make that 3,000 in a 20” with the 134

Tagging in. I am having a 25-6.5prc built with an 18” barrel. Planning to only run the 134eldm. Hoping for 2900+.

Building it as a homage for my grandfather. My grandfather had a 25-284 that was his main big game rifle. He passed away in February and the rifle was stolen in June. I have a 6.5prc so a bushing die will serve two purposes.

Check out the 257 marksman thread. 20" running 3200 with 134s and H1000. I just got a 18" chambered but waiting on adg brass. Hoping for 3125.

Less options for parts because of the parent case but not bad.

What bullet are you planning for? What is your desired minimum impact velocity you’re planning for?

My buddy has a gun that he loves in 25/6.5 PRC with a 19” barrel. I texted him and he says 2905 average MV suppressed. He shoots the 134 ELDMs. He says he maintains 2,000 FPS and 1,200 ft lbs out to 800 yards.

I don’t have any personal experience with the 134 Ms but if they behave like other Ms and Xs close to those weights/diameters I’d be confident in using 1,800ish impact velocity for reliable killing. Running my buddies above numbers that puts the gun being 1,000 yards plus at mid DA.

I wouldn't say it's running 3200, it pressured out at 3200 on virgin brass.

So realistically 3100-3150 max load depending on powder.

You could run 3200 out of a 20" with a powder like Ramshot Grand or N570 but it's into pressure

If you wanted to get 3200 I'd recommend 22" barrel

The 257 Marksman is what spurred my interest in the 25/6.5PRC.

25 PRC is less wildcatty. So I'd personally go that route for a magnum 25
I think it's really no less wildcatty than the other, 257 Marksman is 6.8 Western necked down to 25. Uses 6.8 Western bushing dies the same as 25-6.5 PRC does. I don't recall there being any mention of neck turn so it was probably spec'd properly as a neck down and load cartridge.

The 257 isn't requiring any neck turn, it's looking like going down to a 6mm might though.

It's not really any more wildcatty than the PRC, but there is more good parent case brass options for the PRC. And technically then initial neck down is moving less going down from 6.5 rather than 6.8.

Western brass only has one good option right now

Advantage is a hell of a lot more case capacity if a guy wants to go fast

UM needs to, maybe they already have, draw up a 25 UM reamer. Necking up their 6UM brass to .257 would be pretty straight forward easy peasy wildcat.

I picked up my 25 RSAUM couple weeks ago and with a 22in Bartlein I'm sending 134 ELD-M's just a tick under 3200. Once this barrel gets some rounds through it I imagine it'll likely be somewhere around 3200 to slightly over that. Necking down ADG 6.5 SAUM brass from .264 to .257 is so easy I barely consider it a wildcat.

Even though the 25-6.5PRC has a little less case capacity then the 25 Western, SAUM or SAUM improved cases it seems to hold its own in the velocity department. Alex Wheeler built a 25-6.5PRC that is slinging 133 Berger's 3250 out of a 24in pipe and he said he built a 25 Western with a 20in that was running around 3150. Depending on barrel length whether it's a 25-6.5PRC, 25 SAUM, or 25 Western it seems they are all within 100 fps of one another. The 25-7PRC and 25 WSM have a bit more boiler room so they seem to be another 75-100fps step up from the others
