I have an unfired left hand Ruger Hawkeye in 30-06 laying around I’ve been considering doing something fun with. Thinking oh having a stock made for it out of exhibition grade walnut and rebarreling it with a fast twist 25-06. I know, you’re probably scratching you head, why a Ruger? If you’re a left handed Mauser guy, it’s one of your only options.

It seems like the quarter bores are getting some more support with Hornady releasing head stamped 25 creed brass and the 134 grain ELD bullet.

If I was to do this will I have issues with the lower grain bullets exploding? I know there’s a range of bullet weights that will either stabilize or explode depending on your twist rate but I don’t have any experience with this type of thing. Id rather not be stuck shooting the higher end of grain weights if it means sticking with a SAMMI twist rate.
I’m curious what everyone’s thoughts are as to whether or not we’ll see more high bc .25 cal bullets come out in the next few years or not.

I just built a 1:7.5 twist 25-06. For lighter I run 80g ttsx as they don’t care on velocity/rpm. I am about 3500 fps, 22” barrel. Seem to work well and now the amax 139g just came out. Also the 134g eldm. I have some 75g vmax, but at a 290000 rpm limit they can only do about 2800 or so in a 1:7 twist. Probably fine in a 25-35, but not a 25-06.

For a lot of folks the lack of heavier higher BC 25 cal bullets has been what always made people shy away from a 25 cal rifle but with Berger, Hornady, and Sierra stepping up their game with these high BC 130's it's making a lot of people, myself included, want a fast twist quarter bore. My guess is we will see a mid 130's 25 cal ELD-X from Hornady in the near future.

...and others want an even faster quarter bore... Dont get me wrong, my 25-284 is sweet, but reading about @sportsmans challenge and @Piercision Rifles 25-7PRC and 25 Max, I got a hankering for an 18" launching the 130s @ 3100+.

I ordered a 21" barrel chambered in 25-6.5 prc. Hoping to get the heavies to 3000 FPS.
Not a powder that's easily found but if you already have some or can get your hands on it I'd bet RL26 could get you there or realllly close.

I just spun on a 24-6.5prc, 22”. Have not done any development yet, but have rl26,retumbo and h1000. I was hoping for 2900-2950 without pushing the limits.

I don’t have any, but I probably have time to look, although if that’s going to be a problem forever I’ll probably try something different.

I'm getting 2820 out of my 22" 25-284 with 54.5gr of H1000. I'm pretty much at pressure with this load, and the 6.5 PRC case has essentially the same capacity. That's with the 134 ELDM at 3.14 COL. I only have around 60 rounds on the barrel, and I'm hoping it speeds up some. However, I'm not sure I'll get to 2900+.

I'm looking at a very similar setup for barrel and bullet. have you tried any of the VHT powders?
