7-08 has heavier bullets with better bc, also comes in true short actions. 25-06 has lighter bullets that shoot a good bit flatter within reasonable ranges, eventually the 7mm will catch up but I would imagine that's around the 500 yard line though. Both good calibers it really depends what your doing with it. I prefer 7-08 and have taken moose, caribou, mule deer, whitetail, and elk with it. 25-06 may be a bit light for elk and moose but I'm sure plenty of people do it with great success.

No real first hand experience with either, but I have a friend that has used a 25-06 for quite a few years. He has taken quite a few elk, north of 30, and countless deer (mule and whitetail). Swears it is the only caliber he will ever use.....so obviously it is superior to the 7mm-08

Why not 280 vs 7/08 the 7mm bullet offers more versatility to load heavy or go light. So it's short action vs long action.

For what?

25-06 is a wee speedy beast for open country deer and antelope and 7-08 is more like a general purpose cartridge.

Either are pretty good hunting cartridges provided they're kept within the bounds of sensible.

If you're looking for .25-06 velocity and 7mm-08 capability, the plain old .270 isn't quite dead yet. Unless very light recoil is a priority for you.

isn't really much difference between 7mm-08 and 270 in recoil but I would think a comparative thread between the 270 and 25.06 would be much more meaningful - Not a real world comparison in this thread IMO
