I've used my .25-06 on cow elk. One shot each, one exited the offside shoulder, the other exited the ribs. The insides were just as messed up as when I've used my .338WM with 250gr Woodliegh.

My favorite load for it has been Hornady 120gr hp over RL22.

With the right bullets the damage is the same as every other 06 size case.

A big bullet doesn't make up for poor placement.

Would you take a 25’06 on a DIY grizzly hunt, provided you were an AK resident? My afognak bull would outweigh any interior grizzly. But I wouldn’t use the 25 in any location for either animal. Using a piss ant chambering, taking poor shots or limiting your shot opportunity doesn’t seem like the best way to hunt elk. Using a popgun to stroke your ego or to inflate your “whatever “ on some forum, isn’t impressing people.

back to my question: hell no you wouldn’t shoot a grizz with a 25’06, not when there’s a good chance of getting your ass chewed off. But,a crippled bull won’t bite you… to me, a bull elk is tougher than any of the bears I’ve been around in Washington and Alaska.

This thread is proof that the internet is a waste of time.

How many times am I going to see the exact same version of this thread? Doesn’t anybody use the search function?

Maybe the post title should be tagged as pointless argument. That’d help people find more of this nonsense.

I have never killed an elk with a 25-06.
2 with 30-06
2 with 270
1 with 308 win
1 300 win mag
No difference for me in effectiveness.
Ranges 60 to 310 yards.
6 elk or 60 still can't paint a perfect picture in every scenario.

I would…I would shoot 115 bergers and it would die in short order.

Another way to look at it is a 25-06 with 115-120 grain bullets is fully capable of anything you’d sensibly do with a 270 Win and 130 grain bullets of the same type. I have not found any difference in efficacy between 25-06, 260, 270 or 280. They have all resulted in quickly dead elk. That said I generally use my 270 or 280.

You can also pull a trailer with a Subaru. 🤣

I never said you needed a 1 ton diesel. (Magnum)

But it’s much safe to go to a half ton pickup so you don’t wreck. (Unrecovered elk)

Yes you can pull a little utility trailer with a Subaru. (Deer)

But a horse trailer (elk) will run you over.

Even if you keep the Subaru between the lines (placement)

It just doesn’t have the horsepower (energy)

So now tell me that the pea shooter guys are marksmen and guys with bigger guns miss all the time. Don’t worry there are many of us who can keep a truck between the lines. Theres a tool for every job. Why put a screw in with a butter knife which we can all tell success stories about, when you could use a freaking screwdriver! Why???

Actually pulling isn’t the problem stopping is.

What is the official list for pea shooter to over compensate club.

The only problems with the 25/06 are factory barrels with twists too slow for the newest high bc bullets, and crappy brass for reloading.

Here's some useful links pertinent to the subject at hand. Highlights include moose with 223 and giraffe with 6mm Remington. Have any magnum sized fellas been able to arouse one of these carcasses back to life? Or is it better to use logic and explain to them how they can't be dead yet because it wasn't a magnum?

Exactly right! Stopping is the problem. If you hit my truck (heavy bone) from behind the Subaru will stop dead. I’ll turn the radio down and say what was that? The truck (elk) will survive.

But if I hit a Subaru from behind with my truck it will barely slow down. The driver will get whiplash and I’ll push him right through the intersection. Good point.

Being a shitty driver kinda like a shitty shot.

But what where does pea shooter stop and non per shooter start.
