Well under 1k depending on the parts used. I could probably get one done for $600 or so with a little effort in parts selection. What's something like that cost?
The Ultralight Ultralight Rifles thread is by far my favorite thread on Rokslide. I HIGHLY recommend reading the whole thing, especially any posts by @Thegman and @StupidLightweight. There is a little something for everyone, even if ultralight bolt action AR’s aren’t your thing. They do a great job of showing that you can tailor your setup to your specific needs, without spending a ton of money.Well under 1k depending on the parts used. There are some build list in the start of the Ultralight Ultralight rifles thread that can help get you started, and tons of other ideas throughout the thread.
That is awesome. I’m currently debating on between 75 ELDM or going ELDX. ELDM shoots great and surprisingly not too bad on coyotes when placed behind the shoulder. Exactly what I want as far as penetration and expansion in them…. Makes me doubtful on larger game such as moose or elk.80 grain ELDX. Mature bull moose. 523 yards. Roughly 2,180 impact velocity. Quartering slightly away. Moose was hit once, moved forward 20 feet behind some trees. Before I could shoot again he dropped (less than 5 seconds).

The “dreaded shoulder shot” with a “small bullet”…
Entrance.

Entered above shoulder bone and tore through lung. Sliced the bottom of the heart on the way through to the exit side lung. Broke two ribs and part of the scalpula before exiting. Both lungs were chunky mush and lung chunks on the ground and tree behind the moose where he was shot.

Two finger sized wound channel on the entrance side turned into a 4+ finger sized wound channel most of the way through the animal.

I personally am a fan of what I’ve seen out of the Xs over the Ms in the smaller diameter bullets. Both in homemade gel, coyotes, and now big game animals. That is awesome. I always get exit with 77TMK from 223 with coyotes. Usually a 6-8” exit hole. What kind of penetration do you see on coyotes with the 75s?
80 ELD-X is the next bullet I want to mess with due to the results you've posted. No flies on the 77TMK, for sure, but at this point, it's interesting to compare different bullets and different results. Kind of like starting all over after doing the same with 30 caliber bullets.I personally am a fan of what I’ve seen out of the Xs over the Ms in the smaller diameter bullets. That’s not to say that the Ms don’t perform well and kill well. They absolutely do. I just have a preference for the Xs killing consistency.
I realize that Rokslide in general is a big ELDM fan and that is for a reason. They shoot accurately and kill well.
For me, I personally prefer the Xs out of my .243, .260 Rem, 6.5 CM, 7SAUM and .308 guns as well. Been using them in these cartridges on big game since they released. They have consistently been the best overall killing bullet I’ve used when looking at long range BC consistency combined with time to death and distance travelled on large animals.
I’ve got a 22 creedmoor on the way. I’m gonna start with the 80eldx also.80 ELD-X is the next bullet I want to mess with due to the results you've posted. I have used X with great success in 7PRC and 270. Taking my 22 CM on a caribou hunt in August. That’ll help me decide if I want to change out the PRC for something smaller and fully join the small cal cultI personally am a fan of what I’ve seen out of the Xs over the Ms in the smaller diameter bullets. It’s a good choice. I’ve found/seen/heard that the 80 ELDX can be a picky little bastard both in hand loads and factory loads. I’ve had two lots from hornady shoot 1MOA or slightly better and I’ve had another lot recently shoot 1.5MOA or slightly worse. Just want to be transparent there.I’ve got a 22 creedmoor on the way. I’m gonna start with the 80eldx also.
I have a fairly small sample size so far but with frontal and shoulder/behind shoulder I can’t find exit and very small entrance. I did shoot one far back a couple weeks ago and almost cut it in half. What kind of penetration do you see on coyotes with the 75s?
would you say the same for suppressed 6 arc?A properly setup 243 is a fantastic hunting rifle. It however, does shot replace what a properly setup 223 does- at all.
But how much does 20 tons of pillows weigh?20 tons of truck and 20 tons of feathers weigh the same. Any Idea how you would get 20 tons of feathers to 60 miles an hour? On a train?
What is it about the X for the preference over the M? Wound channel, exits, consistency?I personally am a fan of what I’ve seen out of the Xs over the Ms in the smaller diameter bullets. Both in homemade gel, coyotes, and now big game animals.
