The terminal performance was certainly acceptable! Yes, only one elk killed at that impact velocity.

That said, it appears the bullet performs as designed below 1800fps, but not yet certain what the actual threshold is for consistent, reliable terminal performance.

@Formidilosus will have much better insight regarding this.

I’d be interested in kills below 1800 FPS. Just to try and determine if 1800 is the bottom or if it’s still consistent at a lower velocity. Thanks.

Just wanted to provide an update on my poor shooting and the AAC TMK loads from the top of this page. Decided to shoot it off of bags today and that seemed to tighten things up. I’d say it’s worth buying.

It is very possible I could be remembering his comments on velocity (1800fps) for the 6mm TMK and not the .223.

I would in general suggest that people keep them above 1,800’ish FPS impact. Having said that, I have seen quite a few elk shot with them below 1,800fps impact down to 1,440fps as PNWGATOR stated. Multiple last year alone between 1,750 and 1,550fps. In all cases they performed very well creating good wound width and 15-18” of penetration.

Got my PSA/AAC TMKs and the Sabres today. No deformed tips on either box. Looks good so far. Hoping to shoot a few this weekend for expansion testing on the sabres.

Not sure about SMKs but the 500ct box of TMKs from Optics Planet I just got were $208 a piece after shipping.
Thanks. And sorry, I omitted that I don’t reload. I’ve purchased from 1 Stand and was considering the current (lower) AAC price from Palmetto, so I was trying to figure out if SMKs could be found for less. Based on my limited search skills, I didn’t see better prices.

Angled exit from quartering front on shot (deer). 175 yards. Gotta be a TMK, right?

Is actually a 60 grn Hammer Hunter. Not dissing the TMK 'cos they are phenomenal. But there are other choices that do the job well with a lot less meat damage.

Do we have a consensus yet on the 77 Grain Tipped Bullets from the American Bullet Company that are sold through Creedmoorsports? I want to hunt with my .223, but those are all that I can find. I know it's been speculated that they are 77 TMK's.

What did the soft tissue look like? I've had monos make similar looking holes in the ribs with field pointesque holes through the heart and lungs on 2 occasions now.

From what I've seen the SMKs can be found for about $0.10/round cheaper than the TMK but the SMK rounds are more plentiful and more manufacturer options.

Recently bought a few hundred of these hoping to make practice ammo that shoots roughly same POI as the 77 TMK’s. Looks like they’re sold out now but may be worth keeping an eye out, they sure look like 77g SMK’s to me. I’ll try to report back when I get a chance to shoot some of them.
