.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Would these be suitable for hunting?

Hornady BLACK 223 Rem 75 Gr HPBT

I have only shot one turkey with the 75 bthp so I can't say how well they kill deer+. The black loads do group slightly better for me than the AAC with the same bullet.

With 24" barrel I get about 2700fps with the black and about 2800fps with the AAC.

Better to look for the 73gr eld-m ammo then? Not going to have time to reload before I hunt up here so I'm looking for a factory load. I can find those 75gr cheap so maybe they'll just be fine for practice. I can also find fusion 62gr for pretty cheap as well.

Both of those are highly recommended for Whitetail.

I’m going to give these a try:

Has your experience with the 75 BTHP been positive?
I’ve only shot two whitetail with them and I couldn’t tell the difference between them and the ELDs

That said, 2 is a very small sample size and folks here advise that they’re inconsistent.

I personally wouldn’t use for elk based on the advice here. But if it’s all you got before deer season, I’d run it.

Even smaller sample size, 1, and that was enough to turn me off of them. On the other hand the 62 gr version has been great.

75s will work but wouldn’t be my pick. 77 TMK or 73 ELDm is what I’d go after.

Just to go back to what’s been posted previously for .224 bullets selection -

77gr TMK
80gr ELD-X
80gr ELD-M
88gr ELD-M
75gr ELD-M
73gr ELD-M

Personally I have three different loads of 77 TMK. If you want factory loads, you’re limited to TMK and 73 eldm.

Shoot whatever for practice though. ADI sells some good 55 grain and 69 grain for training. But really anything as long as you can train will work just fine.

I have thousands of bulk 556 I can shoot for practice. I'll look for the 73gr eldm I can find them local for $7/box more than the 75gr

It seems like they kinda work. 😀
Too many options to worry about them anymore. Thanks guys.
