Well took the plunge and ordered 500 of the creedmoor sports 77gr tipped match bullets. Fingers crossed they're actually 77gr TMK

BC is listed as .420. Sounds familiar….

Well their description says they are first run bullets. Not blems or seconds.

I snagged a bunch more after the first batch. We may see some actual Sierra boxed 77gr TMKs but they seem to be few and far between. Even the 69s that were in stock seemed very limited in supply. These ABC ones fit the specs and look identical to my Sierra branded TMKs. I just didn’t want to guess when we might see Sierra branded TMK out on the market for reloaders given the nature of things right now. Lots of components going to make loaded ammo vs. reloading.

Made it to the range this morning after a long winter of no shooting, (other than a few deer, a Florida hog, and countless sparrows trying to invade the bluebird houses).

I bought some Federal Tactical TRU ammo with the 77gr TMK to try. I shot three five shot groups at 100 yds, with the groups measuring 1.25” (WTF happened?!), .82” and .81”.


I also picked up some Barnes Precision Match 85gr OTM BT to try. Three five shot groups with it measured .81”, .59” and .55”. I was pleased.

Does anyone have any idea how the Barnes 85gr OTM BT bullets might perform in an animal?


Groups were fired from my 16” Wilson barreled home built AR with a Nightforce 2.5-20 and a Larue MBT-2.

I have no idea on velocity. I took my Chrono but was too lazy to set it up.


Shooting deer with a 223 is still not for me, but I can see the benefits. Light recoil. Inherent accuracy. Good selection of bullets…
