22 LR Pistol Recommendations

here is my family of canned 22's.... S&W Victory, VQ mini Mamba, 22/45 Silencershop version, Buckmark and 1911-22.

tell me about the 1911-22. Accuracy, reliability, good trigger, etc? Other than recoil, how well does it serve as a trainer for a full-size 1911?

the 1911-22 is the lightest of my can hosts and works just like the full size 1911. The scale diff makes it not ideal as a trainer as the grip size, trigger reach and weight are off.... But still a sweetie.

Buckmark for me. I have never really been impressed with the Rugers I have shot.

FN 502 has been a fantastic pistol for me, and is a great trainer for my full-size pistols. Great trigger, good magazines, threaded barrel, optic ready, etc.

The cool thing about SilencerShop edition of the Ruger MK IV is that with the reduced barrel length it shoots just about all 22lr ammo at subsonic speeds. This makes it very quiet with a suppressor. No need to buy subsonic 22 ammo.

Alternatively, you can get any MK IV and buy an aftermarket upper to reduce the barrel length. That’s the beauty of the Ruger’s, there is so much customization that can be done to them.
Do you have some recommendations for good lightweight uppers? I have a MKIV 22/45 steel upper/barrel. Would be good to have a lightweight version.

I agree though, the MKIV in general is a solid choice for a 22 pistol. Not that others aren't as well, but I at least have personal experience with the Ruger.

I have a tacsol upper with a 4.5” barrel, I have not yet got the pistol to put it on.

This. I've really enjoyed mine, have a red dot, suppressor, and light on it for nighttime use. Believe bare pistol is lighter than a Ruger as well, and no option for a light on the Ruger.

I love my mark IV, my favorite pistol to shoot. Killed three armadillos in the backyard last year, right outside the bedroom while my wife was reading in bed and she never even knew until I told her.

I have a Davidson’s Exclusive Mark IV that I really like. Super light, came with a red dot. Use a DA mask, but thinking about an OCL Ti since it would be a bit lighter and easier to clean.

Good looking weapon! Did you add that Pic rail on the bottom or did it come that way? I would like to have a bottom rail to mount a light for nighttime varmint exterminations.

My experience is with SR22 and currently TX22.
SR22 in early version could not swap to the OE threaded barrel like later model SR22. That sent me after a different gun hence the Taurus. Running a Banish 22.
With factory sights I am hitting 8" plate at 20 yards and the big mags are going fast. The Ruger has a much better feel in grip shape and wish I had been able to use it. But the Taurus works.
A 1911 style would be awesome for training purposes.

It came with the top and bottom rail. It's a varmint killing machine.

I have 2 ruger SR22's and while they are great for my kids, I don't love them.

I would recommend the sig P322. Accuracy, fit and the fact it is much closer to a carry pistol you can train with it for a fraction of burning 9mm.

I bought a Ruger Mark IV right when they came out. I was never too impressed with the trigger on it. That'd be my only complaint on them though. Mine was very accurate and pretty reliable with different ammo.
I didn't want to start putting money into parts to make it good so I sold it.

Thinking about picking up a Browning buck mark or fn502

I have two MK III Rugers a 22/45 lite and bull barrel stainless the latter isn't suppressor ready though. Put VQ triggers in both Rugers and it was definitely a pretty big improvement.

Also have a M&P Compact that is suppressor ready and gets shot nearly 100% of the time with a can on it. Of the three I reach for and like the M&P the most.
