Looking at a 22inch barrel 300 win mag. What type of real world velocities are you guys seeing? Specifically the 180grn ttsx if you have it but I'm not picky.

Not sure this will help but I run 180 Hornady ELD-X in a 300 Weatherby pretty hot with a 26" barrel to 3300....and have loaded the 300 Win not far behind with a 24"
Would think you could get to at least 3,000 in that barrel. Lots of powder obviously to burn so I would guess you would lose only 50 fps compared to a 24". You have a friend with a chronograph?

3k is what I'm hoping for. I don't have a friend with a chrono yet. I'm just getting into the longer range stuff and I've only now begun to pick up some of the accessories I'll need. In the past, once I found the most accurate load I would bring it into the local range and borrow their chrono just to get the data.

Wife’s 22in Proof Scendero Light shoots 215 Berger 2715 with H1000
The 24 3/8in original Sako barrel shot a 180 Accu Bond 3025 with H4831
I assume you could get an accurate 180 load with H1000 pretty close to 3000fps

Im going to be chopping one off pretty soon. I intended to do velocity measurements from 26 down to 22....but component availability has ne reconsidering.

Isn't that the truth. I had myself all set on a bergara wilderness HMR 300 win mag until I got a chance to fondle a J.P. Sauer and Sohn pantera. Threw a wrench in my plans.

Are these 22” barrels a 1:10 twist?
I’ve been wanting to cut my 26” down to 22” now that I’m hunting with a can all the time. I shoot the 200gr ELD-X and wasn’t so concerned with the drop in velocity, but having enough twist to stabilize a heavier bullet

How many grains of H1000 do you run in those configurations?

My buddy is running a bergara 22” and gets around 2950 with the 180 ttsx. I think you could get 3000 fps out of it.

75.5gr in the wife’s 22in, 1:9.4 twist.
I shoot 74.0 in my 24.5in, 1:9.4 twist.

I am currently trying to get an 18-20in, 1:9 twist put together and shooting before hunting season. I’ll go with the same components. We’ll see what we end up with…

Sorry to chime in on an old thread, but I'm getting around 3060fps out of a Bergara with a 22" 1:10 barrel, shooting 180ttsx over 75.2gr h4831sc...no signs of pressure, but I'm getting around .75" groups which is perfectly fine for me in a hunting rifle so I'm not going to fiddle with it anymore. I am actually building these rounds very short, the rifle itself seems to dislike literally anything within .005" of the standard 3.34" coal, so I'm loading these around 3.325".
