22 ARC

My 16 incher came together easier than I figured it would. The 88 gr. Factory load is giving me the same fps the 75 is in your shorter barrel. I had loaded around 100 80 gr. ELDM's but my Hornady dies would not load straight ammo and I couldn't get groups under 2 inches. Factory 88's giving less tham MOA groups. I sent the dies back and ordered LEE 22 ARC dies from Midsouth, they have not arrived yet.
Is that out of a gas gun or a bolt gun?

Very interesting. Do you measure runout frequently or was it obvious without measuring?

I haven't busted out my runout measuring tool in years but have bought a handful of new dies for new cartridges in that time and just assumed everything was straight enough.

Yep. Really liking this round. I’ve got an 18” barreled AR. Getting 2930 fps with 77 tmk and 75 eldm’s.

You mind sharing your load?
I’ve got an 18in ar too, but I had a tough time getting past 2900. Finally did, just curious though

Any luck with factory offerings? ELD-M/X. I have a line in a good deal for a 16” Gen 2 Ruger. Wouldn’t mind setting it up for another deer rifle out to 400.

I finally got everything put together but forgot the chronograph at home. I am very pleased with the accuracy being close to .75". (Many 5 round groups around .48" to .57" but I have had a few 5 round groups hit .8" to 1.05"... that might be me but I am very pleased with it!) I am using factory eld-m 88gr. Looking forward to an opportunity to get back out there to chronograph and test out on hogs in the hay field. Once I have meat on the ground, I will report back.

I’m shooting factory ammonout of an 18” AR. 88 eldms are at 2670 mv, ten round groups are usually under 1 1/4 inches. 75 eldms are about the same, haven’t tried the eldx yet. It’s a sweet little cartridge! So far I’ve killed around a dozen pigs with it, several coyotes, and a javelina last month at 462 yards.

Got my 12.5” gas gun put together. Have a little over 300 rounds through it now. I’ve added a little weight back to it since this photo but it shoots much better at 6.6lbs total with a 2-7x32 lpvo and a h3 buffer.

I’ve shot mostly factory 75eldm at 2560 Runs factory 88s at 2400, 62s at 2780, 70gr CX at 2620

Also have a tikka 223rem bolt getting opened up now to run a 18” bolt action.

Just to add to the discussion, I’ve been shooting this 18in for about a year now. Shooting 75elds 2850-2950 depending on what stage of load development I was in at the time, and I’ve shot 2 deer, 6-7 hogs, a few coyotes, and a handful of smaller game. Overall, I’ve been very impressed. Really there’s nothing to add that couldn’t be found in the 223 thread, but I really like this set up. I like it enough that I got 12.5in barrel to go with it. It’s shooting the same bullet ~2750 and much more handy

Has anyone messed with 80 gr. Eld's in a bolt gun? I've got a build in the works and I'm wondering what kind of speed to expect compared to the speeds from the gas guns.

The real question is 22 ARC or 6 ARC? My boys 308 is too much for him. Hoping to draw an elk tag for him this year. He’s proficient out to 300 yards. I am sure the ELD series would be enough, considering it has taken a Moose. I have a spare NF laying around I will be tossing on either.

I was running the 80eldm at 2930fps in my 20” ruger gen 2 with 28.5gr of varget. In Hornady brass I started to get an ej mk at 30.5, 3110fps

With cfe 223 and the 80s I was running 31.5 at 3080fps. Saw ej mk at 32.5gr, 3215fps.

Didn’t shoot the cfe 223 load much to check for accuracy but 28.5gr of varget was legit accuracy wise.

I sold the ruger though to do another 22arc off a tikka.
