Paper numbers maybe. Real world don’t lose 50 fps/in. 30 ish more realistic.
Theres literally thousands of post on here and other forums to draw from short barrel prc shed velocity faster than other less overbore 6.5s. Do you have either in a 22" ?

Yes sir, 22” prc. Short/fat deals with the supposed overbore issue better than longer cases that do lose more fps. It’s a non issue to me.

I have a 20” barrel 6.5 PRC that pushes 143 eldx just over 2900 FPS with VV565. I think shorter length rifles don’t get enough credit if you’re backpacking through thick brush or woods.

The numbers are all relative and yes any modern hunting cartridge will be faster with more standard longer barrel lengths but if you want a rifle capable of killing at longer ranges while remaining compact why not go with a higher capacity cartridge with shorter barrel?

You can also go with a slightly faster burning powder at the expense of barrel life. Even slower the rifles are still capable at longer ranges while still out performing the 308.

I'll never go back to a long barreled rifle for hunting again. Right now im deer hunting with a 17" 6.5 Creedmoor. 2450fps on a new barrel ....haha (factory ammo)

I have a 22" 6.5 PRC shooting the 156 bergers at 2900 fps with 55.3 gr of RL26 in ADG brass. Coal is 2.970 sitting at the lands with a .120 match chamber spun up by TScustoms. Mild load but shoots in the. 2s and is in a great node. I know guys who load it much warmer without pressure still.

I also have a 22" 300 PRC. 76.6gr of RL26 and 215 bergers right at 2920 FPS. No pressure.

I have another 23 inch 300 PRC coming my way in the next two weeks as soon as ALTUS finishes chambering the Bartlein Carbon barrel on the new LA 787 impact Action.

These PRCs do very well in short barrels. Both in 6.5 and 300.

I can’t add much that hasn’t been said but I just ordered a new 6.5 PRC... 22”
I muddled over 21-24” and finally decided that 22” was right...my goal will be 2950 with hand loaded 147’s and factory 147 should do 2900-2950.

Friend of mine built one with a 16.5 inch barrel and is still getting 2870 fps out of it, I think a 22inch will be tits🤙

My 22” barrel is at 2850 with 140 hybrids supressed. Serious pressure signs at 2900. I’ve got a 24” creedmoor that shoots 140s faster. It’s just the luck of the barrel draw.
