I went the ruger precision 22lr route. Comes in at 9lbs with a 4-12x40 on it. It's a blast for target and has been hammering the ground squirrels in the orchard for the past year. Farthest poke on a squirrel was 175 yards.

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't made any decisions yet. Just saw the new Grande thumb video with a 22 air rifle. Seems like another way to go possibly.

Old Marlin 25M

I have two old Marlin's bolt-action .22 mag,. 8 shot Magazines. Same hole! Did my own trigger jobs.
They have placed many a meal on the table over the years.
Glad to see some love for the Marlins, 882SS 22mag with fire sights. Had 3 different scopes on it and broke every single one going through the woods or while slung on my shoulder riding snowmobile so just gave up & use open sights. 99% of what it shoots has been up a tree.

I have an old Marlin 25MN (22mag) I've had for prolly 35 years.
3x9 Leupold and more accurate than I am.
I had one of those for a long time. I used it to kill a large number of muskrats out of the lake behind my house. Used an old Simmons 3X9 Rimfire scope on it that had the worst flare in the afternoons. :) It really liked CCI 40gr HP that I would get at Wal-mart.

Made my proudest shot on a swimming muskrat head at 120'ish yards downhill while my wife was watching. I don't know why but that "Wow, great shot!" from her really made me proud.

Decided to "upgrade" and sold it. Wish I had kept it. :(

I don't have the "upgrade" gun anymore. I got a pair of Browning T-Bolt sporters in .22 Mag and .22LR and put a Leupold Freedom 3-9 AO on them. They were just too "small" and light. Harder to hold steady. I did kill a couple of muskrats and a groundhog trying to break into my dog kennel before I traded them off.

I run my 10/22 for dedicated squirrel rifle.

I got a Ruger Precision. 22lr for NRL/PRS22 and occasional varmints. It does OK but I honestly don't love it's accuracy. If I were to do it again I'd get a Tikka or CZ. Or splurge for the Bergara B14.

Cz 457 is my favorite bolt. (Though technically I have it in 17 HMR.

Ruger 10/22 for semi auto is still and will always be my favorite .22

CZ American 452 suppressed for ground squirrels and pigeon/ Eurasia collared doves
Ruger 10/22’s. Kids claimed them.
Savage 24 C. The 24C is so fun for birds, rabbits and other small game while camping and a great all around hiking gun.
Savage 93R17. One of the most accurate cheap rimfires we have. At the time it was $250 range and it’s a tack driver.

I've had several nicer 22 or 22 magnum rifles. The ones I use now are a Ruger 10/22 with a Timney trigger, and a Ruger American compact in 22 magnum. The 10/22 is the most accurate of the 4 I've owned, and therefore the only one I kept. It's no target rifle, but it's great for small game.

I sighted in a American compact 22 magnum for a friend, and it shot so well I ended up buying one. It shot considerably better than my Magnum Research 22 mag semi-auto so I sold that one and kept the American. It's not fancy but it does everything I need. Both have 2-7x scopes that I got on sale, a Nikon and a Vortex Diamondback.
