.204 arrow without outsert or collar?

Another fan here of the HIT's. You can add a footer of some sort if you wish for increased strength if you want.
I'm personally gonna try a Top Hat protector ring this year instead of a true footer.

For a basic arrow it's hard to beat an Axis 300 with a 50 grain brass insert and Easton epoxy. Killed dozens of animals from deer, elk and bear and never a problem.

Same luck with axis 300 + brass HIT. I tried the footers but would catch on bag targets. The 300s are pretty tough as is.

In the last 15 years or so of footing shafts I have found the opposite is true. Footed shafts have held up way better to lateral force applied via the broadhead.

We are talking half outs, not footing.

I tested one the other day. I had a jacked up arrow, so I didn’t care if it got trashed. I shot it head on against a concrete wall at 15 yards - arrow and impact collar were untouched. 70# bow maxed out. 29.5” draw 540 grain arrow with 18% FOC, a very powerful arrow.

Is there a .204 arrow that's simple, no outsert, no collar. I currently shoot a GT Hunter XT. Would like a skinnier shaft for wind purposes, but hate the idea of buying a high maintenance system prone to problems.

Axis? Airstrike? Something else?

I view collars as a way to get rid of problems. HIT inserts are great but by putting a collar on them you are fixing the problem spot on the set up.

HIT inserts are as easy to install as any other insert out there.

My opinion.

I don’t think you can get a better system for a smaller diameter shaft then a HIT with a flanged collar of some type

Half of you guys are going to loose it BUT here is how much I like the .204 with a HIT.

I put them in with blue hot melt, only on a glancing or direct hit with something very hard will I have ay dammage to the shaft. In that case I would throw the arrow in the trash anyway. I have never had a failure on an animal.

So im not saying anyone is wrong, but maybe you are trying to fix something that isnt broken. I suppose if we are talking about an dedicated Elk arrow or Buff hunt then something stronger may be a good idea.

I've been using just HIT's without any collars for the last 12 years in several different .204" arrows. I currently shoot at 75lbs and 32 1/2" draw, and haven't had a single issue with the HIT's. People talk about the ends cracking or something like that.......haven't seen it. Would the collars make the ends stronger? Probably, but I haven't seen a need for them. Maybe it's the stiffer spines and thicker walls I've used........300's, 260's, 250's, 200's??????

Just ordered a Mathews XVR 75#s with a 29.5” draw.

Was thinking of running a Carbon Injexion 280 with 150 grains up front and a 29” shaft. It’ll be around a 515 grain arrow. I wanted stiffer so I chose the 280...think I can get away with a 300 shaft without being underspined?

I've been shooting Axis for over 20 years. I've shot them collars, no collars, etc

FWIW, I find the Axis with HIT system very durable and straight without any collars. I use a fixed tapered coz head and it literally always goes through the animal into the ground on the other side...and I rarely break an arrow.

The #1(easy) thing a guy can do to improve this system is run the cut ends of the carbon on an arrow jig with fine sandpaper that not only squares the end but makes the connection between the base of the BH and arrow end seat perfectly.

This^ makes the system stronger, IME.

You will want the 280's, you will be on the weak side with the 300's. I would think long and hard about getting those micro diameter arrows. The deep six is IMO the best setup for a mirco but you will be very limited on your broadhead and component options with them. I would go with the Axis arrow or another 5mm arrow with the HIT system personally. I'm shooting 77lbs at 27.5" draw with a 28" arrow and using 250 Victory TKO 5mm's with 75gr of brass and a 25gr with great luck. I have 24 so I'm not super worried anytime soon about replacing them but my next arrows will be Axis Match Grade arrows with either BAR's or Collars, I'm tired of changing systems and I think the Axis is the most durable arrow out currently.

I like the Gold Tip pierce arrows. Tough as nails and the half out and collar are no maintenance. Been shooting same dozen since they came out with no problems. Plus great FOC.

I was shooting GT Kinetic XT 200's with regular HIT's and 125's, but my Trophy Ridge Crush 300's with regular HIT's and 125's shoot much better and are much more consistent. I also just got a dozen Black Eagle Spartan 250's to try as soon as I fletch them up. Those are the first non .204" arrows I've bought in probably 10 years or more. But they use a nock bushing, so my Bohning A nocks fit them, so I can at least keep the nocks consistent between arrows.

I'm gonna run victory RIP Gamer (.204) since I still have left overs with the 60gr SS half out and 125 point. After 4 fletch and a wrap I should be close to 480gr finish. I will be switching to axis an HIT system once these arrows are done.
