2025 Bugle Report

All qt here in East central Idaho today. Bud miffed on a nice 5 point yesterday at noon. Bull started at 0700, and finally came at noon.

Good bugling in Northern New Mexico yesterday on a scout trip.

Gave up on finding elk down in the desert, went up high and found them first place I looked!

Have seen one bull chasing a cow, bugled once. Otherwise all quiet in south CO so far.

Found one to shoot sitting travel routes.

Two bugles from a bull yesterday morning about 2:30-3 AM BW MT. Was running with a few cows. Never saw him but the lead cow barked for 10 minutes at the camp. First for me in that spot after several years camping there.

Beginning of a rain squall last night, had a very young raghorn chasing two cows down a closed road. Bull was licking his lips, tasting the air, and all sorts of goofy. Cows wanted nothing to do with him. He'd look towards cow calls but preferred the ladies rejecting him. Bugle didn't thrill him. He never made a peep.

Wolves, however, had been working the high country in that drainage in the late afternoon a few miles away, so that might have influenced his silence. I don't know.

Been hot and smoky. Two rain squalls got things decently wet. Might shuffle the deck today.

Lots of herded up bulls in western MT.

We have been in em for a few days and bulls are talking a little bit.

Haven’t come across and lone bulls looking yet.

SW MT. Woke up to a lone bugle at 3:30am on the 8th and, by the 10th they were sounding off one after the other just before sunset

Southern Idaho has been hit or miss some days bulls seem like they’re on it other days dead quiet. Heading up to help on another hunt for a few days in central Idaho before returning south for my muzzy tag. Best of luck everybody.

Spent a week in Western WY, bulls were bugling early and at night. A few daytime bugles late in the week but certainly nothing special. Bulls came in quiet to calls.

Had an awesome morning in S. WY. Three different bulls and cows were going nuts from about 830 to 1030. I thought they were breaking up into different herds but apparently not. The majority of the cows went to bed with a loud mouthed 3-point rag horn. I watched another dozen head to bed without any bulls. Almost connected with a decent 5 point but was out in the wide open and couldn't close the distance.

Yesterday, I got into a herd with a smaller bull as well. I don't think the dominant bulls have entered the chat yet.

North Idaho yesterday two bulls going off inside of 100 yds. Buddy was set up waiting and them going for 20 minutes. Two guys heard us, they moved in and I saw one of them at 100 yds he saw me. They then tried to skirt us, blew some crappy elk calls, made a racket and poof both bulls moved off like ghosts.

Id have thrown my bugle tube at them

North central Wyoming - getting more rutty but not quite there yet. Definitely bugling. Curious to see how it goes when I’m back down there Wed - Sun.

SW MT

Had one bull go off at 9am and went back and forth with him for a good 10 minutes to pin point where he was. Went in silent and let a few cow calls, and he came in trotting in silently. Bull was shot shortly after.

Had another bull going off that same evening around 6pm while packing out meat. Lots of cows all by themselves still, as I bumped 3 different cow/ calf that same day.

First week in MT was spotty. Couple afternoons they were really fired up, rest of the week was pretty quiet. We went 3 for 3 on bulls. One never made a peep, one bugled exactly once, and the last did the whole dog and pony show. Good luck to everyone still chasing bugles.
