Goal for the year was to call in a tom on my own. I’ve been turkey hunting a few years now and have had some success but hadn’t called one up solo yet. Got started with a jake the first week of season and then got it done on a long beard mid season.
My buddy and I drove 24 hrs from West Virginia to the South Dakota Black Hills to hunt for a week. Struggled and fought weather the first three days but were both able to make it happen on our second to last day to hunt. He killed right off the roost and I got mine at 3:30 that evening. Beautiful country!
Beautiful birds everyone! Especially love to see kiddos getting in on the action.
Shot my first turkey (a little jake) this spring in bear camp. Literally IN camp—the bird was gobbling from its roost a hundred yards from camp and my buddy called it right to us. I never cared about turkey hunting much, but that was a pretty tasty critter.
Took this hen on our property last night. She had a bad leg and was only hopping so I decided to punch my tag on her. My first turkey ever actually. Broadhead through the neck at 40yds. My family watched the whole thing from the car, my boy was stoked to say the least. First year bird with meat the color of store bought chicken, should eat very well.
