Here’s my 2024 NM Archery muley I arrowed today. First ever velvet muley. Listened to Robby’s advice on picking units closer to home where I can spend more time scouting and days in the field.

Stud buck!!! I’ve been successful in 3 different units in New Mexico. Love how different each part of that state is

Watched him off and on for 4 days hoping hoping he would bed in decent spot.
On the 4th day found him after 3 hours of glassing moving across a flat at 10 am, then finally bed across a canyon on the far hill side in a very small patch of willows. The way the wind was had to come in from below, at 2:00 was 45 yards from him. At around 4:00 he got up and slowly went out the back, no shot, but re-bedded about 60 yards from where he was. At 5:00, I was 45 yards from him again. At 7:15 he got up and started moving away, and I was able to make a perfect quartering away shot, between willows, on a slow moving target. Hammered him with a Sevr 1.5.

Y'all have killed amazing deer and taken amazing photos, I'm mightily impressed.

I'm posting my effort hoping to make any other mere mortals lurking here feel better about themselves.

Total baby, and what a photo, ass full of poop towards the camera!

But I don't care. My first archery buck and last day of the season.

Slight disappointment because he was with a pretty nice 3x3. But I had told myself before the season that I'd take the first legal buck possible. The 3x3 was obscured, they were only 20 yards away, and had almost caught my wind. Still happy to have taken him.

Look forward to more awesome photos from everyone.

Lots of 2 and 3 year old bucks running around NV right now. Got within 150 yards of some nicer bucks but couldn’t get a clear shot. Ended up taking this small 3x4 but it’s a trophy to me as it’s my first muzzleloader buck. Bonus photo of my buddies deer from the trip of similar size.

My wife went out solo and sat on an ambush point by a hayfield. This buck came out and she took at 34 yard quartering away shot. Arrow went in last few ribs, through the heart and out the chest. The deer ran about 80 yards and piled up. Her biggest buck to date! Western Nebraska.
