Oh it's getting close.
The last 3-4 years there has been a massive snow in mid-March to delay the budding shoots of grass and skunk cabbage. Been snowing a little high on the mountains, but sea level has been clear for a few weeks. Looks like we might have some green start popping and not be locked in winter deep into April. Could mean beautiful coats and hungry bears early. If the weather stays cool and rainy, coats should stay nice for all of you who have booked hunts in late may and June.

First time for me to do the spring bear hunt/fish. Is first week of May a good time for going out of Homer? From the comments by the OP, my hopes are high it’s a good year!

Yeah, first week of May is very good around Homer. I've killed black bears down there as early as March 20th. By early May, all black bears down there are fully awake.

Awesome. I’m excited! Some buddies and I just booked this today catching a cancellation opening. Nice surprise to squeeze this into the schedule.

Bears are showing up around here. First green shoots are coming up on the beaches and skunk cabbage is poking through. Still a little cool so we haven't yet had the explosion of growth in the southern Southeast Alaska area.
