After striking out with the Bow I found first day success with the rifle! The picture doesn't show it as we were in the lee of the hill but the winds blew 30-50mph for the 5 days we were out hunting. It was rough but we got it done.

Managed to draw a Vancouver Island Roosevelt Bull Elk draw after 40 years of trying.
Always wanted a chance at these remarkable largest Elk of the World.
I held off on small bulls for most of my tag dates, in search of a cranker.
On day ten with one day remaining, the high temps in Oct, full moon, I settled in on a small five to not go home empty.
Harvesting a small 5, what surprises me is is their size. They are every bit as big as any Rocky Mountain larger 6s I have taken yet likely half their age.
Buddy from work only has hunted about 9 years and also drew a tag and harvested another 5 pt as well, his first Elk . Great share.
Go get a Rosie, they also present a different challenge then the Rocky's, not responding to the calls near as well.
I sure hope my next tag happens before another 40 year wait. I'll be boxed by then.
We did have the pleasure to share another tag filled by a first time hunter and his first game animal. An incredible representative of a Big Roosevelt Bull Elk.

After 30+ years of archery hunting elk and numerous tags filled, I decided to switch it up and rifle hunt them for the 1st time this year. It’s not a big bull but it was a trophy experience and I like elk meat

Took my wife on her first elk hunt in Colorado for 2nd season otc bulls. She was able to hammer her first bull at 860 yards. I was able to kill my bull the next day in the same canyon. 2 bulls in 2 days made for some sore backs but great time with the wife on the mountain!

Thanks! I’ve drug on worse packouts and this time it was her turn to do some killing. She’s a badass!

Finally able to post here! First ever elk kill, and solo to add to the challenge. Ironically I’ve been practicing longer distances with my 300wm and ended up shooting this guy at 80ish yard after sneaking into the herd. Montana general tag.

852 yards with a 195 berger put right where it needed to go.

Hope to do this hunt again and really put in the effort to go after the big bulls

Hunted hard all October for a bull without success. Finally connected on a late season cow this morning. Thankful.
