Still can’t believe the CPW thinks adding deer tags in places is needed. Interesting trends for sure.

Depressing. I thought CO would be my lock this year but the tag I want got reduced again. My 2nd choice tag numbers has been cut in half since 2020. Better start making back up plans. These numbers need to come out before draw deadline

Just read through what we applied for this year. Cutting tags from 1000-800. We are borderline with points. Should be interesting come the end of the month.

It looks like the cow moose unit I applied for cut a tag this year. On the flip side, the OTC unit I have archery elk hunted before went to a draw this year. Maybe they'll have some leftovers if I miss out on moose.

Just for my education: is there a reason that these numbers are not posted prior to the draw? It would certainly be helpful in decision making...

I don't have the full reasoning, but here is the way I see it. They meet once a month for their commission meetings and they have to approve the big game quotas which has always been done in the May meeting. If you look at this year and last year there is no April meeting so if they wanted to approve them earlier it would have to be done in the March meeting. This is just my guess, but I assume that they don't have all of their numbers back on health of herd, winter die off, etc so they delay it till May when they have all of their numbers.

CPW could wait until the winter counts are done, make the deadline to apply June 1, then publish the results in mid-July.

Be careful what you wish for...

Why couldn't CPW keep their meeting schedule the same, post the tag allocations in late April as they do now, make the draw deadline early May (I think a week would be ample time for hunters to analyze the tag allocations and make their draw decisions), then post the results beginning of June (seems to me a month is ample time to conduct the draw but I will admit I don't know what all it entails on their side)? There's probably something I'm missing but seems like easy changes that would be better for the process
