Perfect. A new unrealistic fear for when I walk in to the stand in the dark. Thanks for that.
I know the feeling. When I was going to college in Omaha I bow hunted the edge of a cornfield but I had to access my stand through the corn. All I could think of was Signs when I was walking the 200 yards through the corn. That gave me the Heebie-jeebies.

I’m no expert, but got my hands on some tail meat once. I chunked it, laid on the blackened seasoning and sautéed in an unhealthy dose of butter. It was awesome, probably some of the sweetest meat I’ve ever eaten.

We run it through a cubber after a good cleaning. Cut it small, season, saute in butter and use it as a base for a white Chilli, comes out super tender and different than fried. Where you hunt the gators makes a big difference in how they taste, in their main diet and food sources varies. IMO it tastes nothing like chicken, unless it's breaded and fried in the same seasoning and cooked in the same oil as batches of chicken.

I'm here for pictures as well. Never been to the south but if I do I want to hunt for them.
never been to the south?…You need to get down here as soon as you can. You are not fully immersed in life until you have spent a few days listening to folks speaking English that you cannot fully understand. We’ll leave the light on for you.

Being in South Carolina… on an island. People speak “geeci” I think is how you spell it. They don’t say “who are you” they say “who u is, and whatchu want” it means hi, how are you. At first I thought it was disrespectful. Now it’s just a daily thing…

How’s everyone’s gator season going? Anyone got any big ones yet? What’s been your method, baiting, snagging them with treble hook on a rod, crossbow, etc? Where are you hunting?

I know in Florida not every phase has started but they will soon.

I didn’t see a thread for this year yet so iI thought I’d start one. Post photos if you have any.
Bastards don’t give us any season in Oregon, would love to kill one at some point, has to be a way to make the meat better than edible, and a gator hide would be awesome

I asked my guide about this. He said you'll want to fry it. Yeah I know you can fry it but how else do you cook it? He smiled and said you can change the breading you fry it in.

I've smoked some and it wasn't bad but yeah we fry it.

That shirtless dude in Waterboy ain't fake. I tried to speak to him at a birthday party, said something to me 3 times and I still couldn't understand him, he got flustered and walked off.

And to clarify, it ain't like I'm Midwestern, I'd probably be entrainment for some of yall to hear talk.

We fry it, ,blacken it, sautéing and grill it. To me it’s all good. My kids favorite is sautéing it and out in pasta.

I took my cousin on his first hunt the weekend before last. He drew a permit for Lake Okeechobee. We had a blast night hunting and lucked into an 11'3" gator for him. He was pretty excited! I killed an 11'7" on private land a few months ago, pretty fun time but likely will never do it again. Pic2.jpg

Killed an 8 footer last night of hunt opening weekend. Lake Seminole, GA. Also released 2 7 footers, just not quite what i wanted to kill. Used a casting rod and treble this time. Killed a 10'2" back in 2015 , in same area with Bowfishing setup, last time I drew a Georgia Tag. Fun stuff! hate to have to wait 7 more years to do again.

Gator meat is damned awesome! ANyone who says different is crazy. I just sent my recent hide from this year to American Tannery in Georgia. Getting it made into a grey leather style this time.
