My brother and I went on our first elk hunt during early bugle season in the Bob in NW MT. I was blessed to shoot an ancient heavy 6x6 on day 3.

Got my first cow. Wasn't planning to hunt so I had loaned out my gear to a friend, decided to buy a tag after work. Tagged out about 10 minutes into season next day.

Packed it out with 1 of those clunky painful pack frames from the 1980s, all weight on my shoulders with enough rope tied around the game bags to stretch a mile.

2.7 miles from the truck. Those old pack frames can make a man out of anyone.

I did! First elk hunt, Wyoming rifle cow tag. Had to hunt longer and harder than I expected, and adapt outside my comfort zone of spot & stalk, but it came together in a really rewarding way at the end. It was a very scenic hunt, but my camera's memory card failed when I got home. I'm hoping a professional can recover the pictures and then I'll post a report.

Finally got a chance to really get out and hunt. Harvested my first ever elk, super thankful to have the opportunity to harvest this spike. The last 2 years life has had other plans for me that didn't allow me to get out, so it makes this all the sweeter.
