2021 bird season

Got the family out grouse hunting today. We do an annual trip with all the kids, mamma and the dogs and spend all day out there. Most people shoot our spruce grouse with .22 but I love chasing them in the thick with the dogs.

Some beautiful dogs in these pics as well as nice shotguns.....Nick....tell me about your double.

I live in the better grouse area of Alaska but our population cycle is at the bottom and beyond so I'm not shooting any.

It's a Dickinson estate 20 gaufe. Nothing to fancy with it but it shoots well and is great in the grouse woods with its 26 inch barrels.

Got out in early in Mt for sharpies for the first time! Back to chasing partridge, pheasants, and the odd duck or goose and hoping the weather cools off sooner than later!

My bird season starts next week. Cleaning out the truck from a CO elk hunt and getting kennels and other dog gear loaded up. Driving up to Iowa for a few days with my young GSP and we are driving over into SD to find some new places to hunt. Looking forward to it.

This is my Brittany Parker with his first wild bird. He put up 3, but the shooter wasn’t too good. I’m looking forward to many, many more years of hunts with him.

My pup just broke his leg. I have no idea how. Looks like bird season is a no-go. Hopefully, he heals without chronic pain or complications. Hope all of you are having a great bird season.

Sorry to hear about the pup. My old GSP has done TPLO surgeries in both legs and bounced back strong. Definitely gets sore after long days, but it’s manageable. The pup will be back in no time.
