My son filled his 2nd tag yesterday. There were some bigger birds in the area, but after two Jake's practically ran in, gobbled, spit and drummed, and attacked the decoy, he decided he didn't want to wait for anything else.

Got it done on this bird with my two of three boys, this was their first hunt with their old man!

it was a hunt of ups and downs
One setup was blown by me putting us with our backs to the bird and he came in to 20yds before busting us with my boys moving everywhere before I could get a shot.
thankfully night before we had put several birds to bed and headed off in this ones last known position and struck him up and was able to call him to 15yds. Run n gun at its finest with a 4yr old and 6 yr old! Definitely has its challenges

First with a bow and no blind! For everyone that says the Sitka kelvin hoody is too loud I drew on him at 15 yards with it on haha

Good luck to everyone else

Finally had some luck in SE MN. It has been a tough year for weather and wind. Congrats to everyone else who has had success!

Nice. Glad to hear someone who apparently knows what they are doing thinks the weather has been complicating things. Seems that way to me, but what do I know. We are across the border in eastern SD.

Spring turkey season has opened for some and its getting close for others, so let's see and hear about those gobblers that took a ride home with you.

My son (12) took his first long beard Sunday morning of Californias Jr weekend on a piece of private near the local roost tree.
Beard measured just over 11" but it looked and acted like a 2yr old bird.
Shorter but not rounded Spurs so possibly 3 but he was getting his butt kicked and chased around by the other toms and jakes. By 8am he couldn't take anymore whippins and began practicing "social distancing". As he fed away from the flock, he got to within 60 yds of us. So as the other gobblers were busy with hens I gave a few soft calls. Hoping that the lonely tom would hear me but not calling so loud as to let the other gobblers know I was there, so they wouldn't run him away from us again. It worked and within about 30 seconds the youngster had bonked him on the noggen at about 5yds with his .410.
Afterwards we took some meat to the guy who gave us permission and thanked him. Processed the bird and now we've got 8 good meals for 3 packaged and in the freezer for Covid-19 season.
1st longbeard is a memory he'll never forget. That's what its all about.

Went out yesterday afternoon it was windy and didn’t see anything but was looking for signs. Found a few in this back field. Hiked in there early morning today set up a ground blind and waited for a bit. It was really quiet when I’m used to hearing birds gobble out on that land and then at about 6:45 gobblers fired up. This guy came in and at 6:55 he was knocked down at 60 yards with federal 3rd degree. I usually don’t take shots that far but he started strutting back towards the woods and I felt confident enough and luckily it paid off.

I had seven toms in my decoys this morning. The first group of 3 toms were run off by the second group of 4 birds. Shot a mediocre sized eastern. Great hunt.

I concur on the tough weather conditions from western Illinois. Judging solely from that pic I hope you never run for political office. J/k haha

Here is my SD turkey I got with my shotgun last weekend.

He didn't want anything to do with my decoys, so I had to put the sneak on him while he was showing off for some hens. Closed the distance and got a shot at 30 yards. Didn't go exactly as planned, but it sure was exciting!

I got a first season Tom in SW WI last weekend. Things were pretty quiet and he only gobbled once. This was a couple hours after fly down, but in a spot they were known to frequent. He came in quiet, saw the decoy and went full strut. I clucked once to get him to stick his neck out... 19# and 8” beard. Not the biggest but a great hunt.

Both my wife and my brother’s wife asked why the hen was standing there looking at it... I guess Avian decoys work!
