Was this a general tag zone? I think I have 3 or 4 points now for Wyoming mule deer, elk, and pronghorn. Looks like you had an amazing trip, congratulations! I am from NY and can not wait to get back out west to either MT or Wyoming. Good job

Looks like you guys enjoyed the area! Great job with the write up, I've got a pretty good idea of which outfitter you were with!

Finally got my hands on the meat after having it shipped back from from WY. Filled my freezer with the deer and antelope. Took two pounds of the ground venison and used it to cook up some venison chili tonight for the family. My son was so excited to try the venison he was jumping out of his skin. Used my MeatEater cook book for a recipe and spent the afternoon shopping for the rest of the ingredients, chopping, dicing, browning and then slowly cooking. Results in the photos below. It was a success and will have plenty left over for lunch tomorrow. The plan for tomorrow nights dinner is antelope tacos.

Pretty happy with the outcome. 4.5 year old son told me they were the best tacos he has ever had...although I suspect his opinion is a little biased :)

Semi live update. I live in New York and today is opening day for rifles on white tail. I convinced my dad, 68 years old, to get his hunting license for the first time. Took him out this morning for his first ever deer hunt. We set up a make shift blind in the woods on his property. I live about an hour from his house. Got going early this AM, hit the road at 4:15 so we could be sitting in the blind by 6am with plenty of time until first light at 630.
here is the old man sitting in our spot glassing for his first time. We are set up in the woods on the edge of a field D2041980-67D6-4840-84A0-22C7467188EE.jpeg
It’s a spot he knows well, has watched deer for years field in the field and then move into the woods in front of us. There’s a pretty nicely worn game trail about 25 yards in front of us.

I had come up to the property back in October to set up our “blind” and cut down some trees to make better shooting lanes to the game trail.
We are both set up with buck and doe tags and I told him, whatever we find it’s yours.

At 6:48am my dad looked behind me to my lift and whispered “buck.” I turned my head and 10 yards from us was a nice 8 pointer slowly walking around us.

It didn’t come through the field like we thought, but was headed straight for the game path.
Dad got set up on a pair of sticks I laid out for him as the deer crossed in front of us.

I gave a quick shout to get the deer to pause, look our way and give my dad a second to squeeze. He’s hunting with a mossberg 12 gauge shooting slugs. He hit the deer a little high in the neck, but dropped him. I think at that point some of the adrenaline and shock kicked in for him, I told him to reload and go again because the buck was going to get up. He didn’t react quickly enough and so now we are sitting, waiting and will start tracking in a bit.

going to be tough to find. Found a spec of blood on a leaf, and some fur, but not much. Hoping he didn’t go too far and we will find him under some thick stuff a little later today

Exciting opening morning and super pumped for my dad! First time hunter in his late 60s and shoots a nice New York buck in the first hour of his first hunt

So unfortunately we never did find my dads buck. We spent a few hours looking, but seems as though that buck went onto another property to bed down. Was disappointing, but none the less an exciting day for him.

About 2 weeks ago, my wife and I packed up the truck, and drove down the Florida with our 2 kids.

Today, I was able to get out for the day and go on my first duck hunt. I booked with a really great outfitter called South Florida Hunting and Fishing, run by a guy named Charles Skeeter Holldand, out of Lake Okeechobee. If anybody is down in Florida and looking for a first time duck hunt I’d highly recommend giving them a call.
Anyway, got up at 215am, got myself together, drive the 2 hours from boca and met up with my guide and boat captain. We set out on the water, and carved out a nice hunting hole overlooking a section of the swampy lake.

unbelievable action early and often, and the group ended up putting down 6 birds during the morning hunt. Got off the lake, headed in for lunch and then back out for the evening hunt. Evening was a lot slower, but still put down 2 birds and shot at a few others.

2 hours home and cooked up some fresh seared seasame crusted duck with soy sauce (shout out to my buddy virgil for the recipe idea).

Mottled duck? It's been some years but I mounted a pair of those for a buddy that had done a coastal hunt.
