Sorry to take this off topic. Have fun at the expo. It's fun to see a lot of nice animals. Good luck getting one of the expo tags. I recommend attending early to avoid massive crowds. Also, for safety's sake, wear sunglasses because of all that bling! Also, if it's snowing on the way in, bring a shovel for the flat brim!

Yep, better to go before the weekend if you want to look around without dealing with the huge crowds.

You're right. Total number of NR tags up for purchase as either 1st or 2nd choice tags is capped at 12k or so, which is less than 10% of tags. Especially once you figure in the percentage of them bought as second tags by residents.
