Form was right on, shot broke clean. Let's hope to keep this up for the next 4 days.

Pin settled low, shot broke clean.image.jpg
Day 3, early morning shot.

Day 4, early morning shot after my workout. Everything about this shot felt good!

image.jpg
Day 5, had to make sure it’s a good one. Steady breeze from the back.

Well that concludes my CBC. Thanks to all the sponsors and the mods to make this happen. Overall, very pleased with my shooting. I think between now and September I’m going to try to stretch my MER to 70 or 80 yards.

MER: 60 Yards changed to 40 Yards
Shooting: Ironwill S125
Target: Matrix Target M1

Bow:
Mathews Halon 32-5 75% Letoff 70lbs
Black Gold Verdict S&S Built 5pin w/ 4" Dovetail
Hamskea Hybrid Hunter Pro Rest
ABB Platinum Strings
TorqueLess Custom Grip
Spider Archery 12" Front Stabilizer 4oz
Spider Archery 8" Rear Stabilizer 4oz w/ back bar mount
Tight Spot 5 Arrow Quiver w/ 4 Arrows in the quiver at the shot
Carter Like Mike release

Arrows:
Black Eagle Spartans 300 28" Carbon to Carbon
30grain Insert
4 Fletch Left Helical Q2i Fusion-X II 3.0" Vanes

Day 1 - Perfect weather, partly cloudy, no wind. Tried my MER at 60 but got slapped. First, I way over thought this shot for some reason, I never do. Second, I only had a day of sighting in after putting on new fletchings and a new back bar. Shows to anyone that you really have to use your setup consistently, just not the day before the season and expect perfection. Went clear over the target, picture to prove it.

Day 1.jpg

Day 2 - Rain, lightning, consistent 15mph wind, I changed my MRE to 40 yards. Clean shot when the wind calmed down for a second, no thinking, felt great.

Day 2.jpg

Day 3 - Strong wind advisory in effect. 10-15mph wind with gusts 25-30mph. Positioned target so I had a cross wind and not the wind to my back. Shot broke clean, elevation great but fought the wind for a solid minute on the target.

Day 3.jpg

Day 4 - Beautiful, sunny, no wind, the shot was rushed didn't feel clean

Day 4.jpg

Day 5 - Beautiful sunny, no wind, clean shot

Day 5.jpg

Elite GT 500 29.5 “ draw at 70 ish pounds.
340 FMJ cut to 29 with partial brass insert and 100 grain QAD Exodus heads ends up just shy of 500 grains. 60 yards MER. I tried to mix up early morning ( coffee influenced ) shots with evening shots. White circle is 6 1/2”. Not too bad but I’d like to tighten it up a bit. Thanks , Ed 4F1FADA5-3B0E-42F5-9BAF-C94FECD5E3F3.jpeg6307BA0E-4B0D-414B-90E8-2934DFFE3F64.jpeg9F4B8BE7-52C7-43CC-B091-6A3C7D819640.jpegB80F1721-91E5-4BD7-B9A1-21A7C850142C.jpegECCC1058-DD1B-49CD-B3EC-2D6CF4F6E0DD.jpeg

Shooting a Prime Centergy. Arrows are Day Six HD 350s with 50gr Centric system and 125 gr Cutthroats. Shooting at 20 yds because I have yet to do the work with the new bow to go longer. Considering the yellow circle an acceptable hunting shot.

Day 1
Range I used to shoot at appears to be no more. Berm is there but yardage markers are gone and picnic tables are too. Shot ok given the MN prairie wind.

Day 2
Forgot phone at home so the picture is in my driveway. More prairie wind.

Day 3
Beautiful morning but 30mph straight in the face. Held slightly high and #justgaver. Got my Day Six heads so will probably shoot one tomorrow.
7a0337f671e9baa40e9ae4d7f8983bff.jpg

Day 4
Absolutely ******* furious with myself. You want real, here's some reality for you. literally the first time I ever screwed it on, I put a brand new day6 broadhead on a pretty nude a 6 shaft into the dirt, and after searching for almost 15 minutes, I still have no idea where it went. Completely vanished. No words. At 20 yards. I would fall into the hole and just died now, but I still have to shoot tomorrow.

Day 5
Redemption. Shook off yesterday's frustration and executed despite a nasty intermittent cross wind. no idea how you boys are doing it at 60 and 80 yards, but I'm just happy I screwed on that second Day Six head and put it where it needed to go.

Better late than never as they say....

Hoyt carbon defiant turbo 70/30. HHA single pin. 12” stabilizer. Black eagle rampage wth 4 fletch aae vanes. 125 grain field points.

Gambled and started up right after a move and no shooting for quite some time. 40 yards. First shot felt good but pushed it a bit.2C3CA71C-4286-45E7-AC4E-770463AC5795.jpeg

Day two, early morning shot opportunity. Thought it felt better than yesterday but landed a little high. I will say the 40 yards is likely outside my whitetail range if I don’t emphasize my practice this summer and fall.
A0CC261A-19E4-43DE-9A1D-0FC564DC48CD.jpeg

Day three. Just wrapped a 6 mile hike with ~40# in the pack and shot with it on. Haven’t shot hardly any with a pack on, so it felt a bit awkward plus a setting sun and breeze made it more uncomfortable. As such, shot wasn’t great. Ready to wrap this up and practice shooting uncomfortable more often!
20946990-A25F-44A9-BBD4-11C216233F75.jpeg

Day 4. Man this one was nice. Pin settled perfectly right on the draw and the arrow followed. Hope I consistently replicate this shot. 96722DF9-903F-4A74-BEE7-9B66585490F5.jpeg

Final day. Another shot that felt good and ended up in the vitals. Overall happy with how it went over the challenge despite minimal practice.087C1122-1399-4CC8-B5AE-70160938E6AC.jpeg

Talk about your "cold" bow challenge, this is more like a frozen bow challenge for me!! 2 or 3 years ago west virginia made it legal to use crossbow, and its been that way for a good 5 or so years in virginia. So today was the first time in probably 4 years that I have even touched my bow, literally had to blow the dust off it!! Lol

So here we go....

Bear Showdown
whisker brisket rest
trophy ridge 3 pin sight (i think)
trophy ridge arrow quiver
cant even remember the name of the stabilizer but its colorful
55 pound Draw weight

Easton axis st arrows

Figured I would be conservative and call my maximum range 40 yards since I hadnt done this in a while, shoulda done 30 lol

No where to go but up from here!!

Well at least it ended on a good note, but overall inconsistant as can be, was fun breaking out the bow though, forgot how much it was to shoot one

Participating this year with a 2015 Carbon Spyder Turbo at 72# 28.5" draw.
QAD rest and a MBG 3 pin Ascent
Slinging a 300 spined axis with a 125 gr head and 50 gr brass insert.

Shooting at the range i built at work. Fairly protected area but the wind can swirl so its can be difficult to call the wind.

MER- 60 Yards. Outer target circle is 7"

(typed this on a computer pics coming from my phone)

Day 1 - 6-3-19 5PM calm and 80 degrees

Day 2 - 6/4/19 9PM fading light and breezy 90 degrees

Day 3 6/5/19 10:30 AM 70 degrees and breezy.

Day 4. 6/8/19. Good wind again today and it found its way to swirl in the range. Hard to hold steady and seen some tail kick down range. Just a bit low on the 7" ring..

Day 5 June 9th 😬 Beutiful day here in the 70s. Breezy but protected.

Last minute entry here! I shot through my last broadhead target and have been hoping to find a good deal on new one or two so I could shoot this with broadheads, but it's down to the wire and one entry is better than none!

I'm shooting a 2015 Bear Traxx @ 70lbs. Arrows are Easton FMJ 340s at 30 inches and even though these shots will be with field points I shoot the 100 gr Slick Trick Standard broadheads. Bow is shooting about 280 fps and the arrow is just under 500 gr with the brass inserts up front.

My MER is going to be 60 yards. It's not a super defined target area, but the last black circle of the bullseye is about 8 inches and that will be my vital area.

I actually got my first shot in yesterday and then 2nd shot today so here is both of them.

Day 1 - No wind, perfect conditions other than the fact that the grass is so long here that I can't actually see my aiming point from where I'm taking the shot. I figured this is a real life scenario so for now the grass stays long and my shot was good.

103533

Day 2 - Wind was gusting pretty good today right to left so I was happy to see my point of impact wasn't affected too much. I've found, especially with field points, that wind drift blows me holding my bow more than it affects my arrows as they travel down range. Still shooting over the tall grass and I think it drove my arrow just a touch high today, but still a dead deer.

103534

Day 3 - The wind was blowing pretty good again right to left. The grass was getting tall enough I could hardly see the target at all, so I took the weed wacker to it. I definitely felt the wind in my bow on this shot, but kept it within the vitals.

103815

Day 4 - Wind right to left again, but not quite as bad as it has been the last few days. The shot felt great and it looks even better than that. Feeling pretty good going into my last day tomorrow.

103836

Day 5 - Strong wind left to right. Felt like I was all over the place, but snuck the last arrow in there.

Had a lot of fun doing this challenge! I appreciate everybody at Rokslide for putting this on!

Getting in at last minute...

Mostly got my Chill R set up with new arrows Tuesday evening, didn't quite get it tuned or sighted in. have switched tophats, but still getting bad tears on paper. I don't think it's a grip issue, but I'll figure it out after day 5. I'll make sight adjustments each day.

Gear:
Mathews Chill R. 71#. 30" draw. 85% rock mods. Black Gold Ascent 5 pin slider. scott longhorn 3 finger release. Bee Stinger stabilizers (10 front, 8 back). BEA Spartan 250 30". 202 grains upfront counting insert, 560 total. aae max stealth vanes (3), onestringer 4" wrap. rage hypodermic broadhead 100gr
c8Mk7xS.jpg

day 1, 40 yards, morning no wind
CKZtNek.jpg

day 2, still 40 yards. morning. moved rest and sight a touch before shot, will move sight again for day 3,
VA5RT1f.jpg

day 3, 40 yards still, midday no wind. i'd like to say this was a good shot, but i ripped through the hinge full on target panic. arrow corkscrewed it's way to the target
ZjOjI4y.jpg

Day 4. Morning. No wind. Better shot execution
103963
Day 5. Shot at first legal shooting light. Shot broke well pin was steady. All I can guess is perhaps I didn’t have pin scope aligned with peep
104103

Just for grins, also shooting recurve. Samick Polaris. 40#. 500 spine blackout redhead arrows. 225 upfront (brass 100 insert, 125 grain thuderhead broadhead. 15 yards, bc I'm not very good with a trad bow, morning no wind
vFW2aUj.jpg

day 2, still 15 yards, pretty bad, morning no wind
mmV3yq2.jpg

day 3, 15 yards, midday, still shooting low
SaLVbtv.jpg

Day 4. Morning no wind
103965
Day 5 shot felt good and was finally decent

Deadline has passed to enter. If you started the challenge, you’ve got four days including today to get the rest of your arrows in if you want to be counted in the drawings. Good luck everyone, thanks for coming out for this. I see a lot of guys hurried up and got their equipment ready, others dusted their bows off, and a few of us reevaluated our MER. That’s the purpose of this challenge: To make more prepared, more ethical hunters.
