2019 Best Whitetail Hunt Photo, Sponsored by First Lite

This is far from the most artfully composed picture that will be on this thread. This experience is, however, very special to me. I just finished six years active duty, and got to spend very little of those hunting seasons anywhere near home. This year it came together perfectly with a 70 yard broadside shot. I'm thankful to finally be back in the greatest country on earth long term, thankful for this animal and thankful for the beautiful, wild places that make things like this possible.

I'll start it off with my first velvet deer. Shot on September 7th (opening day) in NE Montana, spot and stalk on public land with a bow. The setting and hunt were surreal, the deer was a huge bodied 5x5 with a gorgeous cape and perfect velvet. To steal a Gritty phrase, I felt like I was walking up on a unicorn as I approached him.
