My season lasted all of 45 minutes. Only 364 days to go. 150 yds from the house. That is called a 50/50 decoy. I set it up to point to where the bird is coming from, so they can only see it when they try to circle me. It was pretty funny, three toms came in, and when they came around the front of the decoy it "disappeared". Should have seen the look on their faces.

Idaho Youth Controlled Hunt 9004

My 14 y/o daughter got her first Turkey! We are turkey hunting newbs so with a little luck, some poor calling, gracious land owners and some willing turkeys we got the job done. My daughter wanted to shoot her turkey with her bow, but after a couple close calls and realizing how difficult it was going to be to get one of these keen eyed, jumpy turkeys into under 10 yards, draw her bow, and get a shot off, we decided that the shotgun was our best bet this year. We spent several hours over 6 days sitting in the blind waiting for just the right opportunity. I'm so proud of the patience and perseverance my daughter showed throughout, never complaining, and always willing to give it her all. He isn't the biggest turkey that was in the field that evening, but he was the perfect first turkey for us. We can't wait to do it again.

Texas Rios on a buddies lease. My second time chasing them and doubled up first morning. Hunted over a foam jake and hen decoys. These two came right in.

Went out next day with my bow but couldn’t coax in the tom. Needless to say I’m hooked and look forward to chasing turkey every spring.

Was able to stretch my season a little. Called for my wife and she got her biggest, 24#, double beard.

My Utah bird. I was so tired from hiking that I took these pics and called it good. I had an hour or so hike back to the truck. My birthday present to myself lol.

Killed my first Osceola in March and had a tough KY season, but was still able to scratch one out.

Started off strong in Mississippi on a new club I joined. 3 limbhangers the first 4 days of the season. Only private land birds of my spring.

First bird had major beard rot but some nice hooks.

The next morning I struck up this tom and his jake partner about 8:30AM.

And I was able to finish up on morning 4 of the season. Heard this bird gobble 1x at 8:00AM. He had several hens and 2 jakes with him. Finally managed to lure them close enough nearly 2 hours later.

Since I was done in MS, I hopped across the state line and started hunting Bama public land.

Bama #1 - ANOTHER with beard rot!

Next up was the Shawnee National Forest in Illinois. My first time there.

And finally, the grand finale. My first trip to the northeast to hunt New York and Pennsylvania. Amazingly, I managed to score the first morning in New York.

Pennsylvania birds kicked my tail for a few days before I was finally able to check it off my list.

Already started planning next spring! Think I'm gonna head to the Pacific Northwest and try to knock out Washington, Idaho, and Oregon.

This season was rough. The birds seemed to be about three weeks delayed. Several mornings, days, and evening of hunting in all sorts of weather, in all of my traditionally productive spots yielded absolutely nothing. Even the hens were sparse and wary.

Last day of the season that I could hunt opened with a heck of a thunderstorm. I got up and quickly realized I wasn't going out in that mess. I woke up a couple hours later, and it had cleared somewhat. I decided to go, and didn't get into the woods until after 9 AM. First stand, set up a lone Jake decoy, and started calling. Got one hen in, and nothing else. I decided to move out of the timber, and into the edge of an open field less than two hundred yards away. Set my Jake out, hit the mouth call...and gobbles immediately....and close. About ten seconds later a couple of Jakes come running in like their tails are on fire.

GIven that this was my last day to hunt, I decided to take one of them, both if I could. As I watched them close, I noticed they were running together very closely. I though that if I times it right, I might get both in one shot. When they were about 40 yards out, I hit the mouth call again, and they stopped to respond. After gobbling, they gave me the shot I was looking for.

One shot, 40 yards with a 3" El Cheapo Double XX #5, and my season was over. I don't typically kill Jakes...but I felt like I earned these two this year.

FireTiger got a fall Rio on Saturday. Eastern CO public land. Sadly has a Goofy fan - I would have said jake but he had an 8.5in beard and 1in spurs.
