Hello all,

I was looking for one of these for a loooong time but I could only find them in 300wm or 300wby or a few random other calibers but what I really wanted was a 308 or an 06.

I settled on a montana in 30-06 and love it but now I'm seeing more availability for the MKV, I've come across one in 308 for a good price and thinking of grabbing it since I already have an extra scope and lots of different 308 ammo.

Does anybody have this gun? Fan you give me the low down on it?

Thank you very much.

Its an 1.5 gun from the ones I have experience with..

They're way better options imho..

I've got the MKV Outfitter, which is just a dressed up lightweight. Mine is a 300wby, it consistently keeps groups around .75. Haven't shot one in 308, but I'd just stick with the Montana. I've been trying to buy one in .30-06 myself to go with my .270 wsm Montana.

If you want a lightweight .308 there are better options than a MkV.

MkVs are nice rifles but don't come in a true short action. They are a great option for a guy wanting a lightweight .300WBY and their standard action makes a pretty nice '06...but you'll be toting a lot of extra metal you don't need in a .308. Nothing wrong with that if it floats your boat (Tikka has the same issue) but if I have to have a long action, I'll just take a long cartridge.

I think the MkV is a good action...but it's really made for the WBY cartridge.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I didn't know that about the action, for some reason I've wanted one of these for a long time but now I'm glad I went with the montana.

With the $$$ burning a hole in my pocket, maybe I'll get a tikka t3 lite stainless and do some upgrades to it, I read nothing but good things about those but I've never owned one.

With the lightweight Wby don't they use a pencil barrel? My German 270 Wby gets pretty hot with its smaller contour. Can't imagine how bad anything smaller would be!

I've got one in a .308 that I purchased for a goat this past Sept. and I'm very happy with it. It's not a range gun since the barrel does heat up pretty fast but does shoots under an inch if you take your time between shots. Here's a pic with the gun. View attachment 42934
