I spent late spring through early September in Colorado and did a fair bit of shed hunting in the area.

Now I'm in Arizona for the warmth, but once march comes I'm headed back to the mountains and plan on shed hunting from AZ back to CO if all goes well and I find enough to pay for cost of living.

I'll post up what I found in Colorado and continue with what I find in AZ to CO. Hopefully this will be a pic heavy thread, since I'll be shed hunting 4-5 days a week.

Here's the first 'horns' I've ever found:

Found my first set a few days later, I was stupid and never took an ATL of one or the set matched together. Gave them to my dad for sentimental reasons so I'll get a side by side pic eventually :

Found this the day I matched up the set:

Here are my first Browns on the board:

This was the best day I had

Then came the dead head my dad's doing a shoulder mount with. He's hunted 12 years and hasn't put one down yet so when he saw this he claimed it to put an elk in the trophy room. I'll have the score for them in a couple days:

This is my favorite ATL photo I have, cut through some dark timber and stumbled on this:

The dogs one and only find of the year, hopefully he improves his number in 2017

And here are the last horns of the year i found:

All in all, I thought it was a pretty successful first year of shed hunting, but I've got high ups for 2017 in Arizona. I've got a goal of 400+" set

Nah not really, he just runs around chasing and sniffing stuff. If he stumbles onto something he will just walk over it unless there's something worth rolling in.

Nice Pics. It's nice to get out in the spring and hike around the hills, taking in some fresh air. With the price of brown elk these days it can also help pay for some gear.

Well I got my 3 delorme maps for the 3 states I'll be shed hunting, time to figure out the rough route I'll be taking.

I read somewhere that it's illegal to pick up sheds out of wilderness areas in Arizona, which seems odd to me since you can hunt them. Is there any truth to this, and if so are there any other states with these rules?

Couldn't find any official laws on them when I checked.

I don't disagree with that, it still doesn't answer my question though.

Most states it's illegal to collect dead heads. Make sure to check. I'd give the fish and game of that state with any questions. Better yet maybe an email and keep it as a record

Damn you did some work in 10 days. If I can have that production every 10 days I'll be ecstatic.

Thanks for the rules link.

Wow, very cool finds. I'm at a loss though. How much money do sheds actually bring on average?

When I sold last year I got $16/lb for browns, $12/lb for hard white, $10/lb for some cracking, and $5/lb for chalk/super chewed
