This is probably redundant, but when you wear the rifle down the middle of your back on the nomad, you don't feel the rifle at least touching your back? Or do the contact points on the top & bottom of the frame prevent the kind of discomfort Im talking about?

It's impossible to feel it with the duplex, but you're correct in your thinking with the bikini. The bottom and top keep it away from your back.

Well in would only want the nomad for its dayhunt ability when on an extended backpack trip. Instead of getting the nomad I could get an xray or spike camp and use them for day hunts away from camp then strap to the outside if I need the space on the inside. I guess there is a weight penalty but I like the idea of a dedicated small pack. Would there be any problems with strapping one of these to the outside of my highcamp (I don't have one to test with)?

The highcamp compresses down pretty small for day pack mode. If you want an actual small day pack you could use a longhunter lid or an e&e. A spike camp or xray seem too heavy to me to pack in just for day hunts.

I think the reason for the batting design in both these new packs covers day hunting perfectly. The main part of the pack can be compressed while still having functional pockets that are accessible without getting in to the main part/bag.

Hey Aron, someone was asking earlier if the lid could be an option upon purchase with Nomad and reduce the overall cost when bought together. Some people will already have a lid and grab-it and can re-use them when they buy the Nomad. Others like myself will need the nomad, camp bag, lid and grab-it to complete the system. Any possibility of a deal for those that purchase the whole system at once? Sort of like a package option?

That's above my rank at Kifaru (Patrick's only has that rank), but I'll talk with him about it.

Just keep a no lid option for those of us that do not need a lid.

Aron, if you were going to buy one set up to do everything from elk to mule deer to mountain goat hunting from day trips to 10 days would you suggest the nomad or EMR II? I would like to have both but if you were to choose one which would it be? Thanks

EMR II

I'll go into more depth when I get out of the gym.

that would be great was thinking of asking the same question,i really like the nomads versatility but i know it would be borderline size wise for my 14 -18 day sheep hunts.i currently run the longhunter rendezvous & some times when packing meat & camp on long trips space is at a premium.i really want to get down to one pack for day hunting & extended hunts.

I would go with the EMR II for sure. The Nomad was designed to be extremly versatile, but 7 days (depending on gear) is about the top end of the pack. After that, you'd be much better off with the EMR II. The longer trips you describe, would be the exact thing that this pack was built for, but also a hell of a day pack.

We actually designed the EMR II (didn't know the name yet) before that Nomad and the base idea of the Nomad came from the wings on the EMR. The Nomad will give you a better/sleeker day pack, but the EMR will give you a better extended trip pack.

The downside of the EMR compared to the Nomad is the # of options you have with the Nomad. You can run about 20 different configurations with the Nomad and get it EXACT for your particular hunt. With the EMR, you only have a few, but do have a much better pack for longer trips and big loads.

For me, I'll be using the Nomad for scoutng trips, day hunts and rifle hunts. Anytime I'm dong a backpack hunt with a bow, I'll be taking the EMR.

To give you a direct answer for your situation, GET THE EMR.

The EMRII would be my choice for what you describe. If you said 7 days or less, the Nomad would be better, but 10 days is a level that most don't try and requires (as you know I'm sure) a big ass pack.

THe Nomad was designed out of demand from our customers that wanted a pack that could do anything from day hunts to week long trips. It seems like most backpack hunters limit is 7 days, and the nomad does that very well.

Why is the EMR favored when bow hunting? Gear being equal, I think the configuration options / mounting options for the bow would be about the same. What am I missing?

Not missing anything! That's just what I'll be using, but not what's best for everyone.

Wouldn't the nomad with high camp have more cubic inches than the EMR? If so would you still consider the EMR superior for 10+ days? If so why?

thanks aron, for the next couple years I don't plan on anything longer than 7 days, so I am leaning towards the nomad for now.. one last question though. what is the weight of the nomad, camp bag, and bikini frame all together? probably going to hold off on the emr for now (hard to tell what kind of cool ideas you and Patrick may come up with next year).. thanks for all the help
