2014 Kifaru Nomad

The nomad on a duplex frame with 2 belt pouches on the belt, long hunter lid, grab it and a camp bag is approximately 8250ci. And that's not counting the sleeves. That'll cover me from day hunting to 7+ days in! If I need more than that I need to re think my gear list! I'm ordering that setup as soon as it's available!

Fully loaded high camp 4800 in Nomad.

Thanks looks like a cool setup that I might be interested in trying.... I'm pretty in love with my DT1 though so hard to be too excited about other setups.

Any downsides to this option or reasons you wouldn't choose to run it this way yourself? I'd probably never run the nomad on its own as all my trips are overnighters it seems.

Aron, it looks to me like even with a bag in the bat wings, as long as it isn't too tall, a lid isn't always necessary? Also, what is the weight of the new camp bag?

You can run it pretty easy with no lid. You'd need a pretty dang big load before you needed upper compression.

I gotta weigh the final CB, but I think it was 12 ounces.

If you had a full HC 7000 and the wings were full would you be able to tighten the horizontal compression straps enough so that the grab it wouldnt be supporting the most of the weight of the HC? Liking this as a solution to my day pack needs but not sure
I'm comfortable with not having the HC secured to the frame. Please put my mind at ease.

Alternatively what are your thoughts on using a spike camp or xray then strapping it to the outside of my pack if the main bag has a load of meat/hide/camp?

Thx

Compression straps would hold almost all the weight for sure. You can see in the videos that we kept them pretty long for this reason.

Can you explain the second question a bit more?

Well in would only want the nomad for its dayhunt ability when on an extended backpack trip. Instead of getting the nomad I could get an xray or spike camp and use them for day hunts away from camp then strap to the outside if I need the space on the inside. I guess there is a weight penalty but I like the idea of a dedicated small pack. Would there be any problems with strapping one of these to the outside of my highcamp (I don't have one to test with)?

This is probably redundant, but when you wear the rifle down the middle of your back on the nomad, you don't feel the rifle at least touching your back? Or do the contact points on the top & bottom of the frame prevent the kind of discomfort Im talking about?

The weight penalty would be the big disadvantage.
