I had an 2013 off road package and really liked it. Drove the hell out of it in the mountains and desert with only basic maintenance ever needed. Traded it in for something bigger when car seats came along. Still miss it from time to time on narrow 2 track roads.

I bought it used for $28000 and traded it in 5 years later and the dealer sold it for $24500. I’m always amazed at the resale value they have. Although I don’t think the new owner would appreciate hearing the stories I put that truck through

I’ve got one, double cab 6 ft bed. Only configuration you couldn’t get a manual transmission, at the time, hate the auto transmission. Fuggin Toyota…🤦 145k miles, no issues. Seats suck and the mileage is meh. Take care of it and it’ll take care of you.

I loved mine, I owned it from 15 until last spring. Ran flawlessly. Oil changes, new battery and a set of plugs at 95k. No issues at all.

Mileage absolutely sucked. 17 mpg was the best I've ever got.
I had a 14’ with 33’s (e rated) and a winch bumper and usually got about 16mpg average. I have given up on good fuel mileage, I just got a new one, and with slightly bigger tires (basically 33’s) it gets similar fuel mileage, the only one I got decent mileage on was my 18’ which got close to 20mpg with e rated tires

Midsize pickups don’t get good fuel mileage, my zr2 got around 16 as well. Midsize pickups have been pretty much all I drive, and none have been fuel efficient… the gen 3 taco has been the best in that category

My current 24 taco seems to get the best fuel mileage in sport mode, which is kinda ironic. Putting heavy tires on them has a measurable impact on fuel economy, but I don’t have a choice, it’s either that or flats constantly

A couple years ago I ordered some e rated ko2’s for my zr2, got 2 flats the first month and was wondering what was up, double checked my tires and they messed up and ordered c rated. They did replace them for free at least

As for my 14’ taco trd off-road, it was a great pickup while I had it, it had about 140k when I traded it in and oil changes and tires were the only thing I had to do to it. All of my tacos have been great. My 98’ broke a leaf spring, but I think it was warrantied, besides that, I don’t think I’ve done anything but basic maintenance on any of them, and have never had one get me stranded… hopefully the gen 4 is same

Has the exact truck. Put a canopy on it, seat covers. it already came with leveling kit, wheels tires and back up lights.

Ran great for me and most days when I'm in the woods I miss it a lot. Much better/easier to drive than my f150. Only reason I upgraded was cab size and my son/dog aren't getting any smaller.

All I ever did to it was change oil, tires and a brake job. Did all my own maintenance. Oil changes took maybe 20 mins. Stupid easy and fast.

I have a 2013 off road and wish I would have kept my 91, especially for the woods. 60k out of the 93k I’ve put on it in 4 years has been off pavement and it’s fine, but really don’t like the gearing in the auto transmission. Buy a stick.
I had a 2006 TRD Sport with the 6sp manual.
6th gear was too short for cruising-2400 rpm at 75mph which killed mileage.
Reverse was too long for anything that resembled a grade, with a trailer-forget it. I had to put it in 4lo to avoid smoking the clutch.
Toyota engineers missed the boat on that among other things.

I had an '07 Tacoma PreRunner double cab TRD sport 2wd. No issues whatsoever! Really liked the access to the oil filter. Compared to the next gen Taco's the V-6 powertrain and trans was much in the older gen than the new. I also had a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD Off Road 4X4 6' Bed and it was always shifting gears at cruising speed, which was very frustrating to me.

I have the exact model. Bought it with 100k and have put another 50k on it. Everything has worked great on it except the drive shaft.

The center carrier bearing wears out because of a defective driveshaft, and Toyota won’t cover it. This particular issue is kind of a hit or miss with this model truck honestly. There’s plenty of info on Tacoma world about it.

Like I said thought that’s the only issue I’ve had. It’s been great driving in the mountains. That little truck will go places my 1/2 ton Chevy wouldn’t even think of going. It’s a great off road truck

I have a 2006 Tacoma, TRD off-road, with ~180k, 4L v-6 and 6spd manual. Its done an awful lot of work for me and is still going strong. 6ft bed is limiting, but it pulls my trailer well enough for bigger stuff. In retrospect I would have gotten the sport model with the limited slip rear end instead - getting the rear locker engaged on mine is finicky and it rarely gets used. I've done a lot of maintenance and repair, but every job i've done has taken less time than I planned. If its coming from a rust belt state look into the frame recall, I got a new frame and lots of other odds and ends in 2019. If mine ever dies I'll be in the market for another genII Tacoma the next day.

I had an 06 TRD OR and now a 17 TRD OR and I was thinking the other day I'd like to buy another low mileage 3rd Gen. I never really like the looks of the Sport, but it is solid. The guy I hunt with is still rolling his 06, it's seen better days, but it's still good to go. I'd buy that one you're looking at without worry, unless it was in the floods in the south.

I have a 2012 crewmax trd off-road

It’s been awesome and done several cross country trips for hunting and fishing. 162k ish miles on it

Have swapped the shocks to bilstein 5160/6112 and 35’s on 17” wheels. Gas mileage has always been terrible. Roughly 13-14mpg avg

Any issues it’s had have been from me being dumb

Edit- my bad I misread. Mine is a tundra. Disregard

There are a few guys on TacomaWorld that hit 400k miles (without an engine rebuild) on early 2nd gens.

@B_Reynolds_AK , that is a NICE looking rig for sure!

I have a 2010 Taco V6 dbl cab 4x4 TRD sport with auto. It's been a great truck for me. 284k miles with basic maintenance plus front wheel bearings x2 (known problem) u-joints x2, and the troublesome center carrier bearing x2. Easy repairs to do yourself if you can spin a wrench a little, and cuss. It's never a proper job without a little cussing. Crappy seats comfort-wise and the cab can be cramped if you're taller than 5'10" or so. Overall a very reliable truck and it will most likely be my next truck. Head over to the Tacomaworld forum if you want more info and opinions.
