Day 1
Well went in Friday morning with a buddy to try and find some berries below the snow. We got an early start and climbed up over the ridge through the snow and dropped down into another basin. We were in the 1st meadow by daylight. We hunted most of the morning without seeing a thing. Almost all the open berry fields are covered by snow, so we dropped down and hunted the open timber that still had berries hanging on. We were walking slowly through the timber with plans of heading out towards the truck. I spotted a bear at less than 30 yards after coming around a tree. I wasn't exactly ready, rifle over the shoulder and no round in the chamber. I chambered a round and amazingly the bear just continued to stand broadside looking at us. Put one behind the shoulder with the 300 win and hunting buddy grazed his back with the 300 ultra mag as he dove into the bushes. He didn't make it far, piled up about 5 yards into the bushes. Just under an hr later we were packing 5 miles uphill back to the truck. On the way out we spotted a decent boar working the hillside, he was about 340 yards but fed into the timber before we could get set up. we tried to call him down but no luck.
