2 man Backpacking hot tent?????

Hello all I have recently received the go ahead from my wife to order a new tent and a back packing stove. As excited as I was I didn't realize the difficult choice that I was now faced with, "what tent system to choose?" After much consideration i have narrowed my choices down to the SO Cimmaron and the Kifaru Sawtooth. Any feedback on either tent good and especially BAD would be greatly appreciated. And also anyone who has any first hand experience with both of these tents which tent would you choose. Hunting the medium to high country of western wyoming September-November. If there are other worthy backcountry hot tents that I didn't ask about let me know! Thank you in advance!

I have a cimarron with titanium stove and it works for me. 2 guys with stove packs and small wood pile by the back door and we are absolutely maxed out. 3 guys with just packs in september is awkward but doable. Like trial153 said they all have differences aside from size. Write them all down kn paper and do a good comparison.

Before I purchased I used yard paint and outlined the floor dimensions in the yard. Used an extended paint roller handle in the center and painters plastic to construct a mock up of what the tent would be like to see if I was ok with the dimensions and head room. Totally worth the 3 hours of messing around in the back yard.

Great advice in the above post.
Many tents dimensions look great on paper but dependent on wall angle, head room, ect...don't necessarily translate to usable space on setup.

I'd also consider the SO 4-man tipi. Larger footprint, more usable space, and with a height of 6'10", you can stand up in it. Makes for a perfect 2-person tent with plenty of elbow room.

I have a SO-4 man tipi that I used once and may be putting it on the Rokslide Classified for sale.

Thank you all for your replies I feel like if for the highcountry hunting I do with limited space for footprint I am leaning towards the cimmaron however the Sawtooth would better handle the wind I will face. Out of the two tents which tent holds up better to high peak level winds?

For the sawtooth excels in the wind vs the cimarron. First the design/shape is slightly better, however it can also be pitched to cut the wind a bit too. The cimarron is shape is what it is and you can't really pitch it any way to cut the wind except by changing the locations.
That said the Cimarron shape for is better use/lay out for useable space. Both are excellent. After setting up and trying both I see myself owning both

This is going to be overly simplified.
. If I was primarily using it for one person with stove or two without a stove ...then the Cim. If I was going to be primarily hunting with a partner and stove, then the added square footage of the sawtooth is worth it.

Two is all you can get with stove with a sawtooth. I honestly I wouldn't do three in either of these shelters with or without a stove unless it was an emergency.

I’ve been eyeing the redcliff for 3 and a stove. Just didn’t know if the sawtooth would cut it with that many people and be a do it all from solo to 3 people.

The Sawtooth is a great option. My buddy and I used mine last season.
But this year we're going to use a Kif 8 man. The reason is last year it rained a ton. So that Sawtooth got cramped with all our gear and wood.
Id suggest taking a tarp if you take a Sawtooth for extra gear/wood.

I am in the waiting que for my SO DCF Cimarron, and am super excited to get it. I didn't like the sawtooth design as well as the SO, and felt the SO might be easier to pitch. As mentioned on here, both are great products.

I am leaning towards the cimmaron and even more toward the DCF cimmaron

Good choice!!
I’ve ran a cimmaron for the last 4 or 5 seasons. It’s great for 2 + stove or 3 w/out stove. I wish DCF was an option when I got it.
I would recommend at least a medium size stove and add an extra foot or two to the recommended stove pipe length. I feel like that has made embers on the tent a non-issue.

it took me a season to figure out the importance of pitching the tent off the ground to mitigate condensation (more of a factor when not using a stove). I put longer chord with line locks on my stake loops and use a rock under the center pole to add a couple inches of height. That gives me a couple inch gap the bottom and takes care of condensation.
