1st moose hunt emotions

I have been fortunate to be in Alaska twice on a moose hunt and it is one of the greatest things I have ever done hunting. Alaska is just a magical place! Enjoy it because like others have said, when it is all over it can be a big let down.

I still get super excited before hunting season! My area is my back yard (literally: 160 acres) so I don't feel the nervous excitement you're feeling based on the fact that I didn't need to spend much money and the area's I hunt are not new to me. But heck yeah man! Enjoy those feelings! And best of luck, hope you have a safe trip with pleasant experiences.

Hey guys, I've been planning my first moose hunt for the past 3 years and the time is finally getting close! Myself and and buddy are getting dropped off by air taxi this fall for a 10 day hunt. I've been coyote hunting hard here in the Midwest for the past few months and the moose hunt was kind of pushed to the back of my mind a little but with coyote hunting slowing down, I've started watching a lot of moose hunting videos and reading up again and I got flooded with a buttload of emotions; anxiety, nervousness, excitement, uncertainty; my question is how many of you get feelings like this before big hunts? If it's your first hunt or your 10th hunt do you still get them? I've been out west elk hunting in the mountains and never really got this way.
Same here. Went on my first moose hunt last year. Being the first time magnified all the emotions. I think that makes it better all the way around. It’s an even bigger thrill than other adventures have been up to that point. Hopefully your trip has some adversity you overcome. Makes the stories and memories even better. On our hunt, we had miserable weather, various logistical challenges, and didn’t have a chance to get one until day 6. Made it so much sweeter when my daughter was able to capitalize on a brief opportunity. Can’t wait to hear about your trip when you return.

When one no longer gets excited before, or during or after the hunt, it's time to stop hunting...and take up something else!
I hope that I'm not there. I've had 50 some years of some fantastic hunting starting when I was in college in my then home state of Colorado with my first deer and elk. Then after moviing to Montana in '75, for the next 30 some years, I shot mostly a bull elk every year along with 2 of my own Montana moose and taking a friend for his B&C moose, 3 Montana Unlimited unit bighorn rams and a mountain goat.

Then, starting in 1999 I went on my 1st of a dozen international hunts with a great Dall ram, a mountain caribou and a wolverine in Canada, two other Canadian hunts where I shot 2 B&C bull caribou and a B&C Muskox. Six African hunts in 3 different countries where I brought home 30 some different animals including a leopard and cape buffalo. A great hunt and trip to New Zealand with my GF wher I brought home 5 different animals including a 400" plus Red Stag. My house and Trophy Room look like a museum!

I turned down 3 bull moose on a Newfoundland hunt because their antlers were smaller than my Montana moose, we didn't see any moose on an Alaskan hunt, and I shot just a representative bull moose a few years ago in Alberta. But he was great eating!

Yesterday I bought my 2026 Montana deer and elk tags and applied for antelope, moose, sheep, goat, and buffalo tags. Almost all of my domestic hunts have been DIY and most were solo DIY, and now at 80 years old and without horses, my biggest concern now is "Can I still get to these animals, and can I get them out?"
