I know there are tons of tents out there and discussions about them. I'm looking to downsize from and Argali 4p. It's just to much tent for me and the group I go with, I typically end up in my own tent or solo.

I curious about a few if anyone has any experience with one of or a few of these tents on my short list.

Seek Outside:
Silex
Guardian

Argali:
Owyhee
Rincon

Durston:
X-mid1
X-mid2

having been in some tough to pitch areas I was also curious about the footprint on some of these. honestly leaning toward the Silex or Owyhee. can the x-mid run without the netting?

If you decide on a Silex, I’ve got one in the classifieds.

Good tent, even balance between footprint, weight, and headroom. I’ve gone in the opposite direction as you. When I’m running a floorless, I want it big/tall.

I'll give you a vote for the silex. I've spent quite a few nights in mine and really like it for what it is.

I have a silex and a guardian. Spent many many nights in the silex. It's a great one person tent. The guardian is nice also-but a lot bigger. Bigger foot print-which gives you plenty of room inside. But, to big in my opinion for most of my off trail campsites.

I have a Durston midx2 solid. Really like it. Doesn't go fly only, but as above mentioned, if I go floorless I go big. Not familiar with the others but am sure all are great (have an 8 man SO tipi that gets the most use). But on paper comparing the Durston 1xmid solid to the owlee, the Durston is 5 oz lighter (in full tent mode) and utilizes both hiking poles to give more interior space. It's also quite a bit cheaper. Enjoy the search and let us how you like what you end up with!

I’ve got a guardian. It’s a great tent and a palace for one (it’s a true comfortable 2p tent and I’m a big guy). However, it does have a pretty large footprint. For the size, weight, and versatility it’s great, but if footprint is a big concern I might consider other options.

For 1 person I either take a bivy sack (for good weather), or a small, light two person tent. Reason being it can be hard to put your pack and gear in a 1 person tent with you and then if it rains your gear that gets left outside gets wet.

I'm not sure where you (OP) live nor your hunting/outdoor activities, conditions, etc. That said, seriously consider what others have mentioned and go solo with a 2-person tent. That's what I've done for over a decade.

For my hunting/fishing world I have a light wt 2-person tent that I've used for 10-day remote floats, sheep hunts, backpacking, etc. (KUIU Mountain Star)...and I also have a bombproof 2-person tent that I've used for canoe access spring black bear hunts and 14-day remote fly-in fall moose hunts (Hilleberg Staika). BTW, both tents are still going strong after a lot of use.

I can't imagine down-sizing to a 1-person tent, but I understand that we all have different hunting worlds, conditions, preferences and needs. The best to you all regardless.

I would either go with one of the 2 person tents, or look at a reasonably sized tarp (9x9 or bigger) since you're looking at floorless shelters anyway. The tarp would give you more options to pitch, especially if you're in some tight areas. I've slept in deer beds on the side of a hill under a tarp.

Out of the options you listed, I'd go with the Guardian or Rincon. I had a Guardian and it was a palace for one person, even with a stove. It slept 2 with each of us having our own vestibule which was nice (no stove). With a stove, things get tight.

I sold the Guardian and picked up an Absaroka. I wanted the extra room in the Absaroka for at least 2 people with a stove. Plus, if I'm taking a stove, there's a 99% chance I'll have at least one other person with me, so I can split that weight with someone else.

I run an Argali Rincon when its two of us or just me. The footprint isnt overly large and its ample room for two people. My rother and I used it mule deer hunting in MT. When it snowed we were able to fit all our gear in the tent as well, it was a little tight but not overly cramped. I used it later that year by myself witha stove and it was a palace for one, even with a stove in there. The price point is right as well. If i had to do it all over again id buy the Rincon over any other tent.
