1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

One thing that struck me in some of the early announcements / 'reviews' of the Warrior was people talking about them being a model that is 'less than' the 2K11 - phrases such as 'cut some costs', 'reduced features' and so on ... the overall impression was the Warriors could be significantly 'less than' the 2K11s in features and performance.

I guess time will tell if any of that means problems for the Warrior platform as such. And whether future reviews talk about the Warrior for what it is, rather than it being compared semi-negatively to the 2K11.

You'd hope that Kimber having apparently taken on feedback from some experienced heavy users and modifying the 2K would mean that they have a lot of experience to put into the Warrior. In some ways, this might be a better approach than when a company makes a 'good enough' base model, and then tries for something advanced, but falls short. Will be interesting to see the longer-term reviews.

I’m pretty impressed my ds warrior so far, for me it’s just outclassed by the staccato c. So far, I’d say mine is worth the money. It feels like what the prodigy should have been. Trigger is better imo than my staccato P and slide to frame fit is about the same. It also came with an rmr optics plate. Could be sprung a little on the stiff side.

As far as cutting costs, the grip is nice, trigger is good, and the tolerances seem tight. Looks like it even has the marvel cut to smooth the ride over the disconnector, which is pretty fancy. I read somewhere that Kimber sent some employees incognito to Bob Marvel’s classes, so maybe they learned something. The sights are better than most guns in its price range (blacked out rear, tritium front). I think they cut costs with cerakote, aluminum frame, and going with a bushing design. I’d like to find a reason to keep it, but I just can’t justify keeping it and the C. I’ve been shopping around for 1911/2011 for a while and I think it would be tough to find a current production 1911/2011 that is better built for the price. That said, this is a sample of one. Also, it’s on the lighter side, so if you want a heavier/plusher gun you might want something different.

Where are you located?

What's the consensus on a 9mm Nighthawk? Don't own any 1911's, have always wanted one, and prefer a 9mm. I like the look of the president / 5" government. I know they're expensive, I'd only be buying one of them and have some cash lying around from selling gear and stuff I don't need so that's not a factor.

Feel like Nighthawk might be the "Easy Button" for me as I also live in a regulated state, so can't just order or buy what I want (for example, finding a Springfield Professional - Good luck with that). Nighthawk is on our roster so can get them. Sig, S&W, Colt, Kimber are available depending on the model. I like the idea of something nice, that shoots well, and I'm not going to have issues with.

Another Option, Greg Derr is local to me, there's a chance I could get him to build me something as I've had him do some work in the past and I know he's well regarded. Or, potentially buy / assemble from parts as I think that's allowed from the roster perspective.

Does anybody have any recommendations for 15 round magazines (yeah Colorado!!!!) for a Prodigy DS standard size, not the compact?
StoegerProShop sells blocked 15rd prodigy mags... IbexArmament.com and DeadcrowDefense.com will ship you "magazine repair kits". Almost any FFL will sell you 2011 mags and they usually charge ~$10 to 3D print a baseplate blocker. What you do with it after you leave the store is your business. Just throwing those things out there.

Would this work even with a super cheap RDS?
Would what work? nvm saw your answer, the rest still stands though. Also how cheap are we talking here, plastic housing and lens "Viridian" cheap? Personally I consider Holosun(ethics aside) to be the minimum standard entry-point for anything you intend to actually shoot live ammunition with. Even Holosuns can have a plethora of issues. I've had electronics die completely on a 507c, a buddy had the rear glass fall out of his eps during a match. I'm sure there's many more examples out there.

At the end of the day you will not be doing yourself(or the sweatshop kids) a disservice by buying from reputable American manufacturers.

Is there a decent 1911in 22RF, or a conversion kit that is good.
If going a conversion it would probably go on a cheap Springfield.
Preferably suited to a dot as I’m getting a bit long in the tooth for open sights

I just ordered the Holosun 407K to give it a try. I had a Gucci glock years ago with a Trijicon RMR1. I could never find the dot. I kept looking at the front sight and focusing on it. Eventually sold it as I didn’t want to put in the time to switch to an optic from irons. I still shoot a single Six more accurately than anything else. Maybe one day if I am in an old fashion stand off that skill will have value. So far it’s only been good for shooting snakes in barns and off tractors.

Is that Mantis attached right to the mag? How does that work?
Yes. It's a motion sensor. On other pistols I have attached it to the rail, but the C rail is a little wider than what I believe is standard. I had my doubts that the device would work on the bottom of the magazine, but it seems to record the same information - although I can't be sure it's as accurate. Mantis mentions that location is ideal if you want to do practice (live or dry) with your holster.

One of the large-format 'gun press' 1911 books recommended the Sig 1911 22. However, that book had a few questionable bits, so I'm not sure I'd put too much stock in it.

However, he did explicitly say that while the Sig was made by GSG, the Sig apparently had better fit and finish than the GSG.

I've personally only seen and shot one Sig that ran fine (and just missed out on buying the last one available here), one Colt that ran fine, and one GSG that is a jam-o-matic.

Small sample size, though ...

I can affirm that John ('Tony') Myer of JM Custom Kydex does good work. He and Tricia are a pleasure to deal with, very accommodating, and production/service is on-time.

I've used him before, but he's making two 1911 holsters for me as we speak ... it's all @Formidilosus's fault!
Which 1911 holsters did you get from JMCK, and how are you liking them? I am thinking about an AIWB option, especially for warmer weather. I've also looked online at the Carey Concealment Mach 1 (not all of their models are available for the C) and the Camber (not AIWB, but it appears pretty small).
