1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

Went to the range today and my friend was doing the first shots out of his Sig P211. His didn't have any malfunctions or issues at all from the start. Mine (a couple months ago) had 2 malfunctions in the first 40 rounds and has been flawless for the last 1,000 rounds so far.

Hit 600 in the Kimber today.
No issues.
Had one fail to lock back on a Springfield mag. Blame the mag.
One time I didn't let the trigger reset.

Gun is too easy to shoot. I can shred the 10/x consistently at 15. So much fun!

I also shot my CS today. I like it. I do not yet have a RDS for it. I almost bought 2 when I bought my RMR HD for the C, but I didn't. Now the price seems to be all over the place for that RDS, except only all over the place significantly above what I paid for the first one.
If the RMR is too expensive, and you don't want to go the Holosun / made in China route, another option that uses the RMR footprint is the Meprolight MPO-DF (https://www.meprolight.com/product/mepro-mpo-df/)

I have the Mepro Pro-S on Tisas Raider, as it has the RMSc footprint, and is made in the Philippines, not China. Not enough use to give any feedback on durability yet, but I do run a Mepro reflex sight on a Benelli M4, and that's held up well so far.

Of course, you're then weighing up Israel parent company vs China ... will leave that with you!

Thought some of you guys might appreciate this - there's some primo 1911 history/nerdery in here that you don't get to hear much about very often. Mike Pannone has a few interview segments that are super interesting on Delta's custom 1911s, and their evolution. @43.6N , apparently the Herrett grips were also commonly a part of them:

Now the setup will be mainstream.

Eh - if I look at it objectively, it's not that it's too expensive. I'm just stubborn. I paid $636 about 2 months ago and now they are running over $700. The difference equates to plenty of dumb purchases on my part. And there is something to be said for having the same setup on both pistols.

BUT, I will check out the Mepro this morning.

The GP Forza arrived. Have not fired it yet, but initial impressions are really good. Going back and forth between it and the CS, the grip size and angle on the Forza are noticeably better for me. The Forza is slightly more upright. Trigger feels very similar. I had Gilbert install a short/flat trigger.
While being slightly shorter overall, the steel frame adds some heft to it, coming in 6 oz heavier than the CS, which is what I wanted. I did not get the ported barrel, though the slide is cut for one.
I’ll update after getting some rounds down range.

7 yards, 1.50 sec- 1.01 sec first shot. Shot cold from concealed under a T-shirt.

In case anyone's wondering, basic competence for this drill (the Mozambique), from OWB, is 3 seconds. Standards depend a bit on instructor/school/tradition, etc, but distance is 7-10yds, and can be scored either strictly gamer-target scoring with IPSC target and their zones, or anatomical kill hits, like 1 to the heart, 1 to the throat/spine, and 1 to the head.

Newer shooters, they're just focusing on getting 2 A-zone torso hits and one in the head, in under 5-6 seconds.

Intermediate skill is about 2.5 seconds, which most law enforcement have a hard time doing.

Excellent is under 2 seconds.

World-class is 1.5 seconds or less - from OWB. Add .25 to .5 seconds to that time limit from concealed.

Shot cold, that video is like watching the speed-painting of a Mona Lisa.

That’s a Pig nosed handful!

That’s a Pig nosed handful!
Shot it last night. Recoil is less snappy than the CS. It feels great to my inexperienced small/medium hands, as I can get better support hand contact. Doesn’t feel as piggish as it looks honestly. Everything is really tight, so need to run a lot more rounds through it. Had the slide fail to fully return to battery a couple times. 124 jhp’s. Generously lubed with Cherry Balmz.

That is the same pistol from the last picture.
Your draw and first shot time is very impressive, but what stood out to me is the even cadence of shots, even with the transition for the third shot. Also the recoil control of the third shot was pretty crazy, seems like the pistol almost didn't move. Your videos in action are always very cool to see, lots of skill shining through in the subtle details, even just gun handling before and after. Thanks for sharing.

Have probably around 4000 rounds on this gun, never been cleaned, just lubed. Well over 400 rounds in this match today, on the same application of cherry balmz from before the last practice session(300ish). Zero hiccups. A lot of the guys that usually shoot Glocks(or other carry optics guns) were complaining about how bad 1911s are at the end of this match, how irons suck and how they can't wait to go back to their Glock that doesn't malfunction 😂
I could have saved myself on average 5 seconds per stage by slowing down and making hits on first engagement, that would have added up to a win, hard to have the discipline to not miss faster sometimes, lots to work on still!

Another data point here with regard to 1911 reliability.
I was at the same match as @id_jon today.
Won a nice holster in fact.
IMG_0915.jpeg
But started the day with a dirty gun. Had wet lubricated with lithium grease a few hundred rounds ago. Zero malfunctions burning through 400-500 shots in today’s match.
And this gun has had no feeding malfunctions in last 3000 rounds since switching to full power Wolff springs.

Lots of dusty, sandy, dirty magazines.
Some stages needed 11 reloads.
But overwhelmingly a reliable handgun.
