Anyone that has had both give me differences other than the size and obviously the pocket layout. Interested in knowing about things like belt, frame/stays, load hauling capabilities. Thanks fellas

I’ve been contemplating these same two packs. I’m leaning towards the Shape Charge since it can be added to a frame, just not sure on the size yet

I was torn between the xray and the 14R. I have owned one of each in the past, but sold them in my endless search for the perfect day pack. I decided to go with a 14R, but there were no Ranger Green 14Rs in stock. While I was waiting for them to re-stock, they introduced the Shape Charge. I ordered one and have been very pleased. I haven't loaded it any heavier than 30-35 lbs. I only use it for all day hikes. I have other packs that are better suited for overnight. The belt is the same on the Shape Charge and the 14R. I have carried approximately 45 lbs in the 14R comfortably. IMO the suspension on the 14R is a little more robust( and 4 inches taller), so if you want to run on the heavy side, it has the edge. Access to the pack and organization on the Shape Charge are awesome, and it rides quite nicely. Both pair well with a Grabit or Sherman Pocket. In the end, they are both great packs, just depends on how you intend to use them. I hope I haven't muddied the water for you! Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

@oldhorse
That was insightful. I’m looking for something for the occasional travel but primarily a whitetail bag. I have a tactical zippy that I used last season but it was a tad small once late season hit or for all days it’s, which I do frequently during November. I have a full frame pack but don’t like wagging that thing for whitetail. It can stay in the truck and I can go fetch it if I need to. Hardly zero places where you are much over a mile from a road around my parts. I may sell the zippy and get a shape charge.

Squirrels, just curious; Did you end up getting a Shape Charge?

Can’t make myself pull the trigger yet. Sold my Zippy. I’m looking for something for whitetail treestand/saddle hunting. Probably end up building my own since I want something quiet (which cordura is not) and I also want no zippers, going to do magnet and buckle closures on everything.

Did you ever figure out which one you end up getting

I liked my shape charge but I think they need to reengineer their X-ray shoulder straps. Add some padding. Those are brutal after awhile.
