I was torn between the xray and the 14R. I have owned one of each in the past, but sold them in my endless search for the perfect day pack. I decided to go with a 14R, but there were no Ranger Green 14Rs in stock. While I was waiting for them to re-stock, they introduced the Shape Charge. I ordered one and have been very pleased. I haven't loaded it any heavier than 30-35 lbs. I only use it for all day hikes. I have other packs that are better suited for overnight. The belt is the same on the Shape Charge and the 14R. I have carried approximately 45 lbs in the 14R comfortably. IMO the suspension on the 14R is a little more robust( and 4 inches taller), so if you want to run on the heavy side, it has the edge. Access to the pack and organization on the Shape Charge are awesome, and it rides quite nicely. Both pair well with a Grabit or Sherman Pocket. In the end, they are both great packs, just depends on how you intend to use them. I hope I haven't muddied the water for you! Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
