Been using the 124 HH for a friends 6.5 Creed the last two season. Found a bullet on the off side hide from a pig last week. Broke the back leg and was in the opposite hip. Roughly 400 yards. It did not open up but lucky broke the back leg and finished it off with one in the neck.
Going to do some bullet recover this off season on the pigs we shoot. Love doing the gutless but hopefully opening them up will give me a better guess I what the bullet is doing
I know the HH are supposed to shed the front part and the shank should drive through. Like with everything some bullets just fail for whatever reason.

Looks like the hollow point dented instead of filling with tissue to initiate expansion. Other similar reports seems to show this happening on pure bone or hard surface hits where the bullet hollow point doesn't expand but instead dents, and the bullet then tumbles. It could also be a stability issue or you hit a branch on the way.

Looks familiar. Shot a mule deer with a 6.5-300 wby and the 124. Entrance, heart and exit looked like a field point. Hammer said I was shooting them too slow( 3500 fps). I'm a sucker for punishment so tried the 143 out of 7mm wby mag same deal. Caliber, caliber. Supposedly they have a larger hp now to help aid in expansion. Doesn't appear so.

Could have been a lot of things. Maybe to slow for 400 yards. If so will need a new bullet. We don’t take long shots but 400y is sometimes all that is giving.
Could have hit a branch. Pig was moving in the brush.
Won’t blame the bullet but will pay a lot of attention this off-season with the HH and take all animals apart to see the damage.
I have had bullet failures from Barnes and Berger’s also. But also great results.
Best one so far has been the LRX out of my 260.

If you look on YouTube you’ll find reports of similar issues.

I’ve not experienced it yet shooting 143’s out of my 7mm. Thinking I don’t want to.

Yikes. I don't shoot hammers for other reasons, but recently a number of reports surfacing of sketchy terminal performance.

All bullets can and will do weird things. However, by far hollow point copper monos have the highest failure to open rates. Most would be shocked if they knew how many of the bullets that exited had extremely minimal to no expansion.

I’ve shot 4 big game animals Recently with 124 hammers and all have dropped on the spot 1 wild pig at 150 yards, bear in the chest at 20 yards, black tail in the lungs at 100~ and last bigger mature black tail high shoulder at 260 yards

With regard to performed flawlessly. Everything was a 1 shot kill. No tracking, dropped in their tracks. I can't ask for more than that.

With regard to velocity, no idea. I loaded for my rifle/ powder/ primer combination. Look for pressure work until I find the group's that I'm satisfied with. There are loads listed on the Hammer forum for bullets, powders. I'm reluctant, for obvious, reasons, to discuss what I load. Performance with specific regards to pressure may not match your rifle.

I don't know yet how they'll perform on other game. But time will tell.

I think the HP size has been fine-tuned a bit for increased reliability. I've played pretty extensively with that particular projo and have never experienced a non-expander. Running it in a Creed right at 3k and a 6.5 Max at 3.5k. A bone hit, twist factor, or flight interference could be a factor here. Wierd. Never had that happen to me, but always interested in seeing other's results. Guessing the new tipped ones will boost BC as well as improve expansion on impact...

I’ve shot a ton of game with these bullets in the last year and have no complaints they do a massive amount of internal damage. Deer have been bang flop type performance. Large pigs are tougher and like to run a ways before they die with anything for the most part and these bullets are no different in that regard
