12” Grendel bullet

I can’t take credit for the big buck. Land owner is 92 years young and only hunts one or two days a season. He sat with me and used my 12” Grendel.
70 yards from box stand spot. He made perfect shot high in shoulder. Was like a 12 year old when it dropped.

I have stacked probably a dozen whitetails and many dozens of hogs with a 12.5” Grendel and 123gr SST. It would still be my do-it-all rifle except for the Grendel feed issues when suppressed.

Poor blood trails, but animals are dead in 0-20 yards. It liquifies the lungs.

I've eaten a lot of venison courtesy a 20” Grendel. It works very well. If you're having problems, and are using Hornady ammo, that's Hornady inconsistency rather than the cartridge. The Grendel is excellent when used appropriately.

12” is more focused on fashion and tasks other than deer. You're limiting yourself to shot placement that works with practically anything. It's not really a bullet issue. Seems like extra effort to avoid 300BO, but it's neither my circus nor my monkey.

Nice woodsmen work on the deer guys. After last season im pretty much convinced in the 129 ABLR as my best mid size game bullet. Everything else smaller than a deer i use 123 SST or ELDM. I also like 129 interlock SP but havent put one in a deer yet but do well on other critters.

I’ve shot a half dozen deer with 123gr SSTs from my 20” 6.5 Grendel (including a big fat buck that I actually shot twice). Each encounter concluded with a recovered, very dead deer. That said, none of the bullets exited, all of the deer ran 100 yards or more, blood was scarce, chest cavities were like oatmeal, and all of my shots were between 70-170 yards.

I tried a 110gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos a couple of years ago and tipped a big doe over where she stood. I think going forward I’m going to stick with lighter, monolithic bullets at faster velocities.

Ive had better results with 123 gr eldm than the same weight sst. Sample size of 3 each, so not much data. M bullets seem to do just as good at making soup, but nicer blood trails.

I've used the 12" Grendel for deer hunting for two years now. Last year I shot a doe with the SST. I've always like the SST for a whitetail bullet due to the expansion. I did hit bone on the second shot and it grenaded which is to be expected.

This year I tried the 90 grain CX. Buck was shot at 100 yards quartering to and I found the bullet lodged in the skin behind the back ribs. Bullet went through the upper front shoulder and almost all the way out the back. I consider this gun a 200 yard and in whitetail gun. I chose to go with 90 grain just for the simple hold over ballistics and it pretty much cut my drop in half out to 200. I really enjoy that little gun. Getting a suppressor here soon and going to SBR it after the near year. I also got some federal 90 grain TNT for my run around bullets for coyote, home defense, etc.

Going to try a bunch of those AAC loads when they come back into stock. From a energy perspective, it's a great gun for whitetails. For anything over 200 yards a just grab my bolt 6.5cm.

100 grain ELDM or the 100 grain ELD-VT. I've taken a deer at about 250 yards with the 100 grain ELD-VT. This was from a 16" barrel going 2620 fps. The deer was DRT, and what the bullet travelled through was interesting. I'll see if I can find pictures.
