Hi everyone. I picked up a guide lid a few months ago now in 1000D gray wolf. Then- and still now- it has a very pungent odor- like a chlorine gas type of smell. I tried to air it out quite a bit, but it still persists. At first I thought it was "new lid smell", but now I'm concerned that its "volatile, carcinogenic smell". Anyone else have experience with this? Does it get better with (even more) time? Any suggestions to neutralize the odor?

brownbear - you mentioned airing it out; did you wash it as well? I've found Nikwax Techwash to be pretty good: just put packs, minus buckles, in a machine on a delicates or wool wash setting, with low spin. Or just a soak, handwash, and rinse can also help.

My 3 year old FHF harness has a weird smell too. Thought it would dissipate over time but it hasn't.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try handwashing it first to see if that helps. I had it in the woods with me yesterday, and I still catch a whiff now and again. I have some techwash for the GTX gear and will see if it does the trick. Thanks

Yeah I'd handwash it with vinegar and then with woollite. Google the vinegar to water ratio but this used to remove smells from clothing.
