I'm in! Just gonna wait for some better weather before I start. Haha just kidding, but it seems the wind doesn't stop blowing here until July! Frustrating!
Hopefully I can get my wife to join in, as she should be drawing a L/E archery elk tag this year. I've been watching the bank account like a hawk this week.
Ok, here it is. I'm shooting a PRIME Rival with a 30"DL around 65 lbs., pierce platinum 300s at about 470gn. I thought my Max range was 70 yards but may get a reality check with this challenge.
My wife is shooting a Hoyt charger, I think 24.5 or 25" DL at about 40 lbs. I can't remember what her arrows weigh but they are falcon 500s. She'll be shooting 40 yards.
Now to be fair, she has only shot on 2 different occasions since she killed her buck in September 2015. She had a pretty rough pregnancy March-November last year, and has been busy with the baby since. Hoping to get her A LOT of range time the next 3 months. (As for myself, I don't have an excuse just a less than desirable shot)
The hexagons on a matrix target is 7" flat to flat and 9" point to point. I put a yellow dot on point of impact because you couldn't see it otherwise.
We are aiming at the center white dot, so she is 4.5" from center and I'm not much better.
Don't know the temp, and the wind was surprisingly calm tonight.
Day 2...
I told my wife I'd watch the baby while she went and took her shot. It's 40 degrees and didn't want to bundle him up for a couple minutes of shooting. She doesn't seem to be too into the challenge, she hurried out and back in.
I went out for my turn and when I seen her arrow I was a little disappointed. I thought about letting her quit the challenge. I walked back to 70 and turned around, the setting sun shining right in my eyes. I thought about waiting for a while until it was down but decided to go ahead and take the shot.
I couldn't see where I hit until I was about 20 yards from the target, and when I seen it I thought to myself, I'm not posting this! This isn't a good representation of how I shoot...or is it?
So, because I guess because I don't really care, here is another day of terrible shooting on my part.
Day 3...
Leaving lots of room for improvement here! I'll I can say is im starting to look forward to day 8. Haha. No sun in the eyes tonight, just gusting winds.
On what should be a brighter note, those bank charges finally came through and it's looking like my wife is going to be hunting big bulls this fall! Although, as this post indicates, there is a lot of work to be done!
Day 4...
Since the first three days were less than stellar I decided to change it up a bit and shot in the morning with the sun at my back. Either it helped or I got lucky but the shot did feel great. But I know 1 good one doesn't cancel 3 bad ones either. I decided to leave my arrow in the target until my wife got home from work to take her shot so I'd only have to post one pic. I still don't know what is going on with her and it's pretty hard to tell with one arrow a day. Could just be out of practice or could be her bow but after the challenge we are going to figure it out if not before then.
Day 5...
Beautiful weather today, just barely breezy but much warmer. I took my shot around 3 in the afternoon and my wife waited until around 8p.m. She finally made an excellent shot and I'm back out in the fringe!
Day 6....
Went to my moms for Sunday dinner and decided to shoot there for a change of scenery. Kieshla pulled her shot and called it immediately. I was standing in the sprinkler and waiting for it to go around between aiming.
I think I am going to do this challenge again around the first of august. If things haven't drastically improved I definitely won't be taking any 70 yard shots during season.
Truthfully my shooting in this challenge doesn't surprise me too much as we don't start practicing heavy until around Memorial Day.
Day 7....
Today was my wife's birthday, so we had a little party. The last of the guests left around 8:30. My wife plopped down on the couch and I asked if she was going to take her last shot today. She responded with a dirty look but after a few seconds she stood up and went and got her bow. In hindsight we should have waited a day to finish but it is what it is.
Looking forward to using this as inspiration to get better by august....a lot better.
