Going to try my best to change something everyday (except for stated yardage). Should be interesting to see if I was right by keeping my shots under 20 when hunting with my stickbows or if I can extend my range.

So far, I reconfirmed that I shouldn't shoot with the sun in my eyes... LOL!

Here we go, my first (I got impatient), thought I'd start off 'easy':

This is from around 32 yards which is close to my maximum (I am still figuring things out). Overcast, slight wind from the right.

That's some fine shooting from 32!

This should be fun and give me an idea how the bow/myself are shooting. My bow has been out of service and in the shop for most of the year(almost switched to a Mathews!)...just got it back a couple weeks ago.

I am shooting a 2016 Hoyt Carbon Defiant, 26" draw, at 70 pounds. I will be shooting at 60 yards.

Day 1; light wind, temp near 65F, and the mosquitoes were redonkulous.



Day 2; light winds again with temp near 70F. I was happy with this shot as the Bride was yelling at the dogs...damn distracting!



Day 3; light winds with temp of 73F.



Day 4; early morning shot before I hit the road. Temp was mid 40s and I punched the trigger;



Day 5; nice afternoon, shot felt good, but I shot right again.



Day 6; Good up and down but trending right again.



Day 7; First day w/ some weather. T-storms in the area w/ light rain and some gusty winds. My shot was a tad high.

That's a good idea. You're braver than me.

I just posted up arrow #3. Not sure if it's because I couldn't shoot this morning (because of the wind) and had all day to think about it, or I'm just getting further into the challenge, but it's more intense every time I go out there, step up to the target, and draw my bow knowing I only have one shot.

I guess I will throw my hat in although a little late to the party. I have not shot much in the last 2 weeks due to a shoulder issue I can't pin down. Figured one shot a day would be a good way to ease back into it.
Shooting a 55# @28in samick sage recurve drawing about 29inches.
30in .340 gt hunters
200gr head +100gr insert
4 - 2.25in shield cut feathers.

Hoping to have an Effective range of 30yds this season. Shots are @30yds shooting at a 9in x 9in square. Clean target... Should have 7 holes next week! "Two holes on right are hole punches"

50 degrees and calm tonight @2100

Day 2. Looks like Ryan S. Might have spoke a little soon 0600 before work this morning. 35 degrees. I call it a miss. About 7 inches from center

Day 3. 13:00. 50 degrees light, variable wind still 30 yds. I feel much more in control of the shot shooting in the afternoon or evening when I'm a little loosened up. I'm gonna shoot early in the morning tomorrow but do some push ups to warm up a bit first and see how it feels compared to an evening shot.

Day 4. 65 and calm @1430

Day 5. Nice day, about 65 degrees at 12:00.

Day 6 and 7: I took these shots two days ago and yesterday respectively. That rounds out the 7 day challenge. I really wanted to get them all on the 9x9 in square but I'm not quite there. I think those shots would have killed am elk ok, but I don't feel like I'm quite there at 30yds just yet. Really enjoyed the challenge and watching everyone progression. Thanks Robby!

30 yards! Nice shot!!! You must be deadly with a solid shoulder!!!

Quite the difference in weather this morning over my previous three "70 degrees+" days. 33 degrees and freezing rain, but luckily no wind at all, coming straight down. Target is in the far corner.

Yes it's because my black gold is still sighted for Broadheads from last fall, which tend to hit a little bit LOWER (caps for correction, accidentally posted higher before) . But in the spirit of the challenge I'm not touching anything. It is what it is.

I'm not changing anything! I'm not as brave as Ryan K Sanpei. Broadheads were suggested early on in the challenge, but I knew there would be a lot of guys that weren't ready to shoot them. If people want to, though, go ahead.

Day 4 Refection

It looks like I was correct with my earlier assessment of my effective range being just under 20 yards when hunting with a stickbow. Because this was a “self challenge”, I tried to set the effective range distance at 25 yards, but with two misses, I can’t call this effective. As mentioned before, I could've gapped this yardage (using my arrow tip in relation to the target) and this would've given me a solid reference point. This aiming system works well for me on a flat land 3D course, where I have time to find the correct yardage and set the appropriate gap in inches, but for me it just hasn't worked well for my hunting situations. Gapping is a deadly system for many, but it just doesn’t work for me and I wanted to try and keep things a real as possible. I do try my best when it comes to archery, but I’ll admit, I’m not a “talented shooter”. For the next three days, even if I pull off perfect shots, 5 out of 7 wouldn't be acceptable for me to claim proficiency.

For some very important personal reasons, this has been a great challenge for me. Thank you Robby!

I'm shooting a 2016 Hoyt Defiant Turbo w/ 60 lb limbs. Shooting a Gold Tip Pro Hunter 340 w/ 100 gr tip at 307 fps. Only have 20 yards to work with in the back yard though...

Day 1: Weather was 88 degrees w/ humidity 90%, no wind.

Day 2: Much better than Day 1...

Temp: 91
Humidity: 46%
Wind: Light to None

Day 3: Temp 78, Humidity 90% Wind out of NNW 5-10

Was out of town this weekend and will be out of town until 5/24 so I'll have to pick it back up when I return...

Day 4: Temp 81, Humidity 33%, No Wind, millions of mosquitoes...

Day 5: Temp 86, Humidity 38%, light wind out of sse

Day 6: Temp 84, Humidity 47%, no wind

Day 7: Temp 88, Humidity 32%, wind 4-5 out of sse

Sounds like fun. Hoyt CST 74lbs, tommy hogg 3 pin sight. Small 3D deer target at 70 yds.

Day 1: calm, sunny, 20 degrees (Celsius)

Day 2: calm, sunny, 0 degrees. The shot felt good so I was surprised that I went low. It took all my will power not to try another shot to see went wrong. After thinking about things and walking back and looking at the target I believe I am holding a little low on the deer target. My day 1 arrow is right where I am holding. Tomorrow I will aim a little higher.

Day 3: sunny, slight wind at my back, 2 degrees. Aimed a little higher.

Day 4: light rain, calm, 10 degrees.

Day 5: overcast, calm, 9 degrees

Day 6: overcast, calm, 5 degrees

Day 7: overcast, calm, 8 degrees

I'm just trying to understand this. If your broadheads hit higher and you chased those with your sight last year to get those centered, shouldn't your field points be hitting low? Just trying to understand your reasoning here.

This is a great post. I do the same thing with my rifle every fall. It will clearly show you where the cold bore shot is. Robby have you noticed if you put all your arrows into one target you're shooting a pretty dang good group. Just a little high!
